This is the top-level category (and/or, mixing metaphors, the root category). You can browse down through each subcategory, and directly to some articles. Outlines and discussion of principles may be found at WikiProject:Categories and Tags.

Every other category should be a subcategory of at least one 'mother' category, so that every one can be reached by browsing the 'tree' on a subject/topic basis. Every 'article' (and many other pages) should be in at least one category, and will often be appropriate in two or more. So, as you enter categories and articles, please place at least one category tag in each one that does not have one.
