Love this idea. Don't know why we have to delete it so quickly... it would be ok to talk about I think. Can you make one without the offending flower? ~~ MarkDilley

THREE times, Manorainjam posted an image which has a clear breach of copyright. He was warned after the first instance, ignored that warning, and posted two further images which breached copyright. And just whom in the existing WikiIndex community did Manorainjam ask about either need for a new logo, or the permission to upload what was a highly contentious logo? We need to keep MediaWiki.org, and the whole Wikimedia Foundation 'on side' – we certainly don't want to piss them off by ripping off their own logo and using it in our own logo, and trying to pass it off as our 'own work'. Manorainjam is becoming highly disruptive to WikiIndex, its current community, and former contributors – and is highly likely to alienate former or dormant WikiIndex members. Maybe he can use his enforced absence to cool off for a week, and consider whether he wishes to work with the community, or ignore the community and do his own thing! Splitting this into several parts:

  1. breach of copyright. I don't think MediaWiki Foundation is going to fret over us talking about a logo.
  2. he clearly heard you and tried to go to lower resolution to go around the copyright point you brought up.
  3. I agree that he has come into this place like a ton of bricks and started Meatball:ForestFires ... and he is doing some interesting stuff none-the-less.
  4. Maybe a breather on all sides to figure out how to work together?
  5. Appreciate your energy - hoping to figure out a way to move forward.

Best, MarkDilley

Just saw block, don't think that is warranted. ~~ MarkDilley

A lower resolution is not a way of working around a copyright. The only thing which can be used in defence of a copyright is 'fair use' - and there is nothing which complies with fair use when we try to use a copyrighted logo (irrespective of the actual 'source' of the logo - it was clearly identifiable as the MediaWiki.org logo), and incorporate it into our own logo! So really, there is no defence for Manorainjan repeatedly posting those images.

And if you are of the opinion he started a forest fire, then a brief ban will not do any harm. It will allow Manorainjan to take some time out an assess how he wishes to work with WikiIndex in the future; and will also allow the rest of us some time to put out said fires, tidy up any damage, and clear the air. Afterall, he did get a warning, and he had previously been asked of his motives on WikiIndex, so it wasn't a surprise to him! I've also noticed hes being challenging admins on the English Wikipedia too, and in an agressive manner. ;-//

Its late (gone 1am here in the UK), I'm tired and cranky, I'm off to bed. Talk later, nighty-night.  ;-zzz Sean, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crattalk2HH 00:04, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

The MediaWiki.org logo is 100% PD, the only issue I see is the respect to Eloquence. I'll unblock him for now. --YiFei | talk 09:38, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
