Survey of Vandalism Cleanup Options[edit]

I've had some problems with spam on my own wikis and have used a variety of approaches for cleanup including rolling my own extensions that delete all traces of spam users including their accounts and their edits. I'm trying to decide whether to invest more in those efforts right now, or to build on one of the other projects that already exists. I've been out of touch with the work for about two years, so I need to survey the current state of things before I make my choice. I'd love to help out my friends on wikiindex at the same time if possible, so I'm going to create my survey here. I'm slowly working my way through the discussions around spam and upgrades on this wiki ... AND ... I welcome any ideas about what folks want ... just add them here :-) Warm Regards, BrandonCsSanders

Working out from mw:Manual:Combating vandalism and mw:Manual:Combating spam (not real wild about the combat metaphor).

YiFei has created some really nice filters, so very little spam is getting through anymore, most problem we has was with Account Creation spam. Highly interested in solutions for folks that don't have access to the filters. Best, MarkDilley 25 February 2014

WikiIndex:ServerMove Extensions[edit]

Please make a list of extensions:

  • Which where added in our old version
  • Which we will have the new installation but did not have in the old configuration
  • Which we had in the old configuration but will not have in the new installation

I finally decided to just install all the extensions you had installed. See Special:Version. I installed Semantic Mediawiki using composer (this seems to be the direction they are heading) rather than Semantic Bundle ... so you won't see Semantic Bundle. SimpleAntiSpam has also been merged into the core, so you won't see it in the list either. BrandonCsSanders (talk) 15:19, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
I was going to say that installation of mw:Extension:Cite is overdue, but if we're going to limit the pages on wikis to short, one- or two-paragraph blurbs, then there might not be much of a point. Leucosticte (talk) 18:43, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Besides those extensions you already had I've also installed Cite, EmbedVideo, ImageMap, Poem, SyntaxHighlight, Adverts, Analytics, and WikiEditor. The DataValues extension is dependency of more recent versions of Validator. BrandonCsSanders (talk) 15:19, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm still missing a list of extensions. But I noticed that "Who is online" got installed now ;-)--Manorainjan (talk) 22:12, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

This page is not enabled for semantic in-text annotations due to namespace restrictions. Details about how to enable the namespace is described on the configuration help page.[edit]

I'm getting the message "This page is not enabled for semantic in-text annotations due to namespace restrictions. Details about how to enable the namespace is described on the configuration help page." when I hit the simple signature-"Manorainjan (talk) 22:12, 4 March 2015 (UTC)"-Button below....--Manorainjan (talk) 22:12, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm looking into this. It isn't when you hit the signature, it's when you edit a talk page period. BrandonCsSanders (talk) 15:31, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
The message is meant to provide guidance for people who are trying to use in-text annotations. If we don't like it we can empty the message or tweak it at MediaWiki:Smw-editpage-annotation-disabled. BrandonCsSanders (talk) 19:17, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

WikiEditor extra text box at bottom of page[edit]

There is some interaction between the WikiEditor and other extensions that are installed that is creating an extra Edit summary box and radio buttons at the bottom of the page. I'm looking into that now. BrandonCsSanders (talk) 15:31, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Tracked this down and fixed it. You'll have to hard refresh to get the new javascript. BrandonCsSanders (talk) 16:35, 5 March 2015

What is a hard refresh?--Manorainjan (talk) 17:27, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

hard refresh[edit]

See http://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/Hard_Refresh BrandonCsSanders (talk)

I use opera. And I deleted the whole cache. Without success. --Manorainjan (talk) 18:24, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

So you are still seeing the extra edit box at the bottom of the page? Perhaps try https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bypass_your_cache#Opera?? -- BrandonCsSanders (talk) 19:14, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
  • No, I'm getting this "This page is not enabled for semantic in-text annotations due to namespace restrictions. Details about how to enable the namespace is described on the configuration help page."
Please see the previous section that is focused on this issue.

CharInsert conflict with WikiEditor[edit]

  • I can not use "Sign your posts on talk pages: Manorainjan (talk) 19:20, 5 March 2015 (UTC)". Have to use the pencil-button above.--Manorainjan (talk) 19:20, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
I'm still tracking this down. It appears to be an interaction between CharInsert and WikiEditor, but I don't have it nailed yet. --BrandonCsSanders (talk) 21:44, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Updates on the Server move?[edit]

You wrote " I expect the move to happen this month (February 2015)".

Now we got March and no news from You. Manorainjan (talk) 17:10, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
