The Shetland Isles, along with the Orkney Isles are collectively known as the 'Northern Isles', and lie in the North Sea off the northern coast of Scotland, part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Lerwick, the capital city of Shetland, is closer to Norway than it is to London!
