nofollow is a value that can be assigned to the rel attribute of an HTML a element to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target's pagerank. Its use on all external links from articles is controversial, but has been adopted by almost all wikis as an antispam measure. However, there are some notable exceptions, e.g. Encyclopedia Dramatica.
