The wiki was started on the 24th September {{tag|FoundedIn2005|2005}} by Postbagboy who didn't make a single mainspace edit and left.  Since then, the wiki has gone through several transformations, getting a new skin in the beginning of 2010 and a new team of [[Sysop|admins]].

On the 24th September 2010, Wikisimpsons had its fifth birthday.  In October 2010, a decision was made to split away from {{tag|Wikia}} and become hosted on {{tag|ShoutWiki}}.  This was due to a new skin released by Wikia and arguments with the staff.  [[Solar Dragon]] became the founder and steward of this new wiki.
The wiki was founded by Postbagboy (aka 'Post') on 24 September [[:Category:Founded in 2005|2005]] on the commercial wiki farm [[:Category:Wikia|Wikia]].  Post left before he even made a single main-space [[edit]].  Since then, the wiki went through several transformations, getting a new [[:Category:Skins|skin]] in the beginning of 2010, as well as a new team of [[Sysop|admins]].


In June 2011, Wikisimpsons completed its move to {{tag|Ex-Wikia|independence}}.  It now runs on {{tag|MediaWiki}} with a nice {{tag|custom skin}}.  It has since grown very quickly, now beating its Wikia competitor by over 10,000 articles.  This independent wiki is funded by way of {{tag|advertising}} from {{tag|GoogleAds}}.
