In July 2007, Han Dao wanted to create a Free/libre software development page (like SourceForge.net) with strong social networking features.[1] Instead of carrying out the plan, he started the Libregamewiki in August 2007.[2]

At first, the wiki was hosted by a free service, but few weeks after it's start, Mark Sanders became the host.

On September 10, 2007 a major redesign happened with the help of Iwan Gabovitch: The main theme's background image was changed, a logo was implemented and the main page got a new layout.[3]
