==Parameters==
{{Size/doc}}
;pages: number of 'legitimate' [[wiki]] article pages (NO 'thousands' separator), see [[#How to get size information|How to get size information]] below for details
:(''alternative parameter names:'' <tt>wiki pages</tt>, <tt>wiki_pages</tt>)
::This is an optional, though preferred parameter; it selects the appropriate '''{{tag|Wiki Size|Wiki Size category}}'''.

;statistics URL: external link to the wiki's statistics page, which includes a page count
:(''alternative parameter names:'' <tt>statistics_URL</tt>, <tt>wiki statistics URL</tt>, <tt>wiki_statistics_URL</tt>)
::This is an optional, though preferred parameter, and ''should'' be used to provide verifiability.

;wikiFactor: plain value, see [[#How to calculate the wikiFactor of a site|How to calculate the wikiFactor of a site]] below for details
:(''obsolete parameter name:'' <s><tt>wiki factor</tt></s>)
::This is an optional, though preferred parameter; it selects the appropriate '''{{tag|wikiFactor|wikiFactor (wF) category}}'''.

;wikiFactor URL: external link to the page containing the database the wikiFactor (wF) was calculated from
:(''obsolete parameter name:'' <s><tt>wiki factor URL</tt></s>)
::This is an optional, though preferred parameter.  However, if the above wikiFactor parameter is used, then this parameter ''should'' also be used to provide verifiability to the wikiFactor claim.  You may still include this parameter even if you are unsure on how to calculate the above wikiFactor value – as it will allow other [[:Category:Wiki People|WikiIndex editors]] to assist in calculating the correct wikiFactor value for you.

;(As of<nowiki>:</nowiki> 2018-MM-DD): YYYY-MM-DD; manually add/amend the date each time you actually check to verify and/or update the stats
::This does not auto-generate as part of the template, and needs to be manually entered; if missing, the easiest way is to copy the entire {{template|size boilerplate}} as shown below, and paste it into the required article.

==Boilerplate==
When anyone goes to [[WikiIndex:Community portal]] and hits the 'create a new Wiki article page' button, the default [[:Category:Boilerplates|boilerplate]] includes this [[Template:Size boilerplate|Size boilerplate]]:
{{size boilerplate}}
:<tt>(last checked against Community Portal's "Create a New Wiki Page" button <small>--[[User:EarthFurst|EarthFurst]] 17:46, 16 September 2009 (EDT)</small>)</tt>
::Checked agin 08:38, 26 June 2011 (PDT) and updated the above.  [[User:Hoof Hearted|Hoof Hearted]]

==How to get size information==
Many [[:Category:Wiki Engine|wiki engines]] provide wiki site statistics somewhere, which includes a {{tag|Wiki Size|page count}}.  Here is how to find them for various wiki engines;  although it can also depend on the software version of the wiki engine being run by the said [[wiki]].  For some, simply click on the appropriate 'statistics' link; for others, you need to add (or replace) a specific text at the end of the relevant wiki URL in the address bar of your [[:Category:Web|web]] [[:Category:Software|browser]].
#[[:Category:MediaWiki|MediaWiki]] — add <tt>/Special:Statistics</tt> at the end of the URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/Special:Statistics</nowiki></code> (non-English [[:Category:Wiki Language|language]] versions will automatically convert this to actual language).  Dependent on software version, there is a number called "Content pages", or "pages that are probably legitimate content pages" -- use <u>that</u> lower number.  Ignore the (often much larger) "all pages in the wiki, including redirects" number.  We can also [http://s23.org/wikistats/addwiki/ add] MediaWiki listings to the http://s23.org/wikistats/mediawikis_html.php system which tracks various wiki stats.
#[[:Category:Wikimedia Foundation|Wikimedia Foundation]] — ???
#[[:Category:Wikia|Wikia]] — is usually found somewhere prominent near the top of the main page; more detailed info (along with backup file link) can be found at <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiName.wikia.com/Special:Statistics</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:MoinMoin|MoinMoin]] — add either <tt>/SystemInfo</tt> or <tt>/PageSize</tt> at the end of the URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/SystemInfo</nowiki></code> or <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/PageSize</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:UseMod Wiki|UseMod Wiki]] — add <tt>/?action=index</tt> at the end of the URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/?action=index</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:Pbwiki|Pbwiki]] — replace any page name with <tt>/AllPages</tt> – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/AllPages</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:PhpWiki|PhpWiki]] — an option: Search for letter "e" in all Titles (''Is there a better way?'')
#[[:Category:ProWiki|ProWiki]] — add <tt>/?action=spx</tt> at the end of the URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/?action=spx</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:PmWiki|PmWiki]] — use <code>/</code> in the search box then scroll to the bottom (maybe searching for <code>Site/</code> or <code>Main/</code> would be better); an alternative way: add <tt>/index.php/Site/Search?q=/</tt> at the end of the URL – eg. <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/index.php/Site/Search?q=/</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:TikiWiki|TikiWiki]] — replace ending <code>/tiki-lastchanges.php</code> with either <code>/tiki-stats.php</code> or <code>/tiki-listpages.php</code>
#[[:Category:TWiki|TWiki]] — add <tt>/WebIndex</tt> at the end of the URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/WebIndex</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:Oddmuse|Oddmuse]] — in ''RecentChanges'' click on ''1 day'' and replace <tt>?action=rc;days=1;all=0;showedit=0</tt> with <tt>?action=index</tt>
#[[:Category:Wikispaces|Wikispaces]] — replace <tt>/changes</tt> ending the recent changes url with <tt>/pagelist</tt>
#[[:Category:Bitweaver|Bitweaver]] — add <tt>/list_pages.php</tt> at the end of the URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/wiki/list_pages.php</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:DokuWiki|DokuWiki]] — ???
#[[:Category:JSPWiki|JSPWiki]] — add <tt>Wiki.jsp%3Fpage=SystemInfo.html</tt> at the end of the root URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/Wiki.jsp%3Fpage=SystemInfo.html</nowiki></code>  (doesn't work on all sites).
#[[:Category:Socialtext|Socialtext]] — an option: Search for letter "e" in the search box (''is there a better way?'')

==How to calculate the wikiFactor of a site==
The '''wikiFactor''' ('''wF''') is a measure of the 'popularity' of a [[wiki]]-site.  It is based on the Hirsch [[wp:H-index|h-index]], which is commonly used to measure the impact a scientist has had in the literature.  The [[wikiFactor]] complements the number of pages and total number of visits information.  More details can be found in the preprint [http://arXiv.org/abs/0902.3439 'wikiFactor: a measure of the importance of a wiki site'].

The {{tag|wikiFactor}} is simply the number of pages in the wiki (''wF'') that have had more than 1000 times ''wF'' visits.

====Example====
A [[wikiFactor]] (wF) of, say, 20 – means that page number 20 in the ranking list of pages visited has received 20,000 or more visits, whereas page 21 has not <u>yet</u> reached 21,000 visits.  Here is a worked example – for [[Special:PopularPages|WikiIndex]] from September 2012:
<div style=margin-left:2em>
{|style="background-color:#eee; text-align:center; border:1"
|+<big>'''wikiFactor (wF) table'''</big>
!ranking position (p)<br>most visited first

If one counts the entries with <code>views > 1000*p</code> (highlighted in light green) – one arrives at a wikiFactor (wF) of 20 for WikiIndex (correct as of September 2012).

====Where to look====
Many [[:Category:Wiki Engine|wiki engines]] (though not all) provide global statistics.  Here is how to find the appropriate [[wikiFactor]] related stats for various wiki engines (although it can also depend on software version used by individual wiki sites)
#[[:Category:MediaWiki|MediaWiki]] — <s>go to the <tt>/Special:PopularPages</tt> page of the wiki – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/Special:PopularPages</nowiki></code></s>
::* MediaWiki have, by default, now [[MW:Requests for comment/Removing hit counters from MediaWiki core|removed the page 'Special:PopularPages' and page counts]] from the core installation.  They now use the RestAPI function instead.  To now produce the data as before, one must install the [[MW:Extension:HitCounters|Extension:HitCounters]].
#[[:Category:Wikimedia Foundation|Wikimedia Foundation]] — <tt>/Special:PopularPages</tt> has been unavailable for some time.  The 'Top' sites option at [http://stats.grok.se/ stats.grok.se] can be used for [[:Category:Wikipedia|Wikipedias]], but needs to be summed on a per-month basis.
#[[:Category:Wikia|Wikia]] — originally, this info could be accessed at <tt>Special:Mostvisitedpages</tt> – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiName.wikia.com/Special:Mostvisitedpages</nowiki></code>, although from September 2011 this tool was removed, and no similar page counter existed for Wikia sites.  Sometime in mid-2012, Wikia reinstated <tt>/Special:Mostvisitedpages</tt>, so this feature became active again. By mid-March 2013 it had gone again, on [http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Mostvisitedpages the Community Central] and at least one big wiki.  There is now no Special:PopularPages; it was replaced by <code>Special:Top/most_visited</code>, which was deprecated in favour of <code>Special:Insights/popularpages</code>.
#[[:Category:MoinMoin|MoinMoin]] — add <tt>/PageHits</tt> at the end of the URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/wiki/PageHits</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:UseMod Wiki|UseMod Wiki]] —
#[[:Category:Pbwiki|Pbwiki]] —
#[[:Category:PhpWiki|PhpWiki]] — add <tt>?MostPopular</tt> at the end of the URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/index.php?MostPopular</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:ProWiki|ProWiki]] —
#[[:Category:PmWiki|PmWiki]] —
#[[:Category:TikiWiki|TikiWiki]] — either click on 'Page Rankings' in the sidebar, or add <tt>/tiki-wiki_rankings.php</tt> to the end of the root URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/tiki-wiki_rankings.php</nowiki></code>
#[[:Category:TWiki|TWiki]] —
#[[:Category:Oddmuse|Oddmuse]] —
#[[:Category:Wikispaces|Wikispaces]] — go to ''Manage Wiki'' on the left-hand-side of the page, then click on the ''Tools: Wiki Statistics'' icon.  Shift from the ''overview'' tab to the ''pages'' tab, then click on ''Views''.
#[[:Category:Bitweaver|Bitweaver]] — add <tt>/rankings.php</tt> at the end of the URL – <code><nowiki>http://YourWikiURL.org/wiki/rankings.php</nowiki></code>.  In the 'Select Attribute' drop-down list, choose 'Most Often Viewed', and from the 'Number of items', select the most appropriate option from the drop-down list.
#[[:Category:DokuWiki|DokuWiki]] —
#[[:Category:ShoutWiki|ShoutWiki]] — <tt>/Special:PopularPages</tt> and <tt>/Special:Mostvisitedpages</tt> both don't exist
#[[:Category:WikiFree|WikiFree]] — <code>Special:PopularPages</code> is enabled on-request

=====Google Analytics=====
If your [[wiki]] site uses [[wp:Google Analytics|Google Analytics]], you can go to 'Content/Top Content' and select the entire date range to get a count of page views for each page.  If you started using Analytics partway through, and stopped collecting your wiki engine's standard statistics at the same time, you may be able to merge the two numbers.
