'''Modern''' was created in [[:Category:Founded in 2008|2008]].  It was derived from the [[:Category:Monobook|Monobook]] skin.  In {{Mw|MediaWiki 1.23}} and earlier, the Modern skin was maintained within the [[:Category:MediaWiki|MediaWiki]] core repository.  In {{Mw|MediaWiki 1.24}}, along with other default skins, it was {{Mw|Separating skins from core MediaWiki|separated}} from core to its own repository.  It remained {{Mw|Bundled extensions and skins|bundled}} with MediaWiki until it was removed from the bundle in version {{Mw|MediaWiki 1.31|1.31}}.  It has been available as a [[user]] option on [[:Category:Wikimedia Foundation|Wikimedia Foundation]] wikis since its first version.  It was also the default skin for the [[Wikimedia Toolserver]] wiki, until that was shut down in 2014.
