This project has the long-term objective to become a complete and up-to-date '''[[:Category:Global|worldwide]] [[:Category:Travel guide|travel guide]]''', the contributions of which come from '{{WMF-Meta|Wikivoyage/Wikivoyager|Wikivoyagers}}' all over the globe.  [[:Category:Wikivoyage|Wikivoyage]] wants to fulfil the need of {{Cambridge-Dictionary|traveller}}s to obtain up-to-date [[:Category:Information|information]] as fast as possible, something that long [[:Category:Books|book]]-publishing cycles are not able to meet.

Wikivoyage is similar to the well-known [[:Category:Wikipedia|Wikipedia]]; carried by the 'spirit of knowledge exchange', which is so evident for lots of travellers.  Travellers meeting during a trip like to exchange information about the [[:Category:Places|places]] they want to discover or the ones they have already visited.  Wikivoyage wants to facilitate this [[:Category:Knowledge|knowledge]] exchange; their [[:Category:Copyleft|copyleft]] [[:Category:Wiki license|licence]] creates the right conditions for folks to make their knowledge available to a huge community of interested [[:Category:People|people]].
