So should I upload the logos of various wikis or should ask for and wait for explicit copyright permission from the owners? The upload page wants me to check a box saying I relicense the image to the Wikiindex copyright, but clearly I can't do that, as (1) i don't own the images, and (2) there is no Wikiindex copyright yet. Can we just put something like "...or is a logo (in which case we may use it under the fair use doctrine)" at the end of that checkbox? --BayleShanks 00:50, 15 Feb 2006 (EST)

That's a good question. Here's Wikipedia on Logo usage and its Fair Use guideline. I think we need to read it carefully and see if we feel the same should apply here. --24.20.144.13 03:15, 15 Feb 2006 (EST)

According to English Wikipedia, there are a few "blanket categories" of copyrighted images whose use has been generally approved as likely being fair use when done in good faith. Those include corporate logos. I think that since our usage is in an effort to describe the wiki and make it easier for people to recognize a particular wiki, our usage would be considered "fair use". But in any event, if someone objects, we should take it down right away. --Raymond King | talk 00:57, 16 Feb 2006 (EST)

: I definitely feel these are "fair use" but the notification Bayle's talking about does feel misleading. TedErnst | talk 16:28, 16 Feb 2006 (EST)

Right, I see that. I think we just took the default, let me see about changing the wording. --Raymond King | talk 18:56, 16 Feb 2006 (EST)

Ok how's that wording? --Raymond King | talk 19:42, 16 Feb 2006 (EST)

: Great! TedErnst | talk 23:15, 16 Feb 2006 (EST)

Where is the wording? TedErnst | talk 13:15, 19 June 2006 (EDT)

:We could probably just use some image tags like Wikipedia. Now that I've figured out the bot thing, that could be something I could sic it on. — User:Sean Fennel@ 03:01, 30 August 2006 (EDT)
