I was not present at the birth of WikiIndex, so an not sure what all went into the creation of the first WikiIndex:Structured data template. I have seen us tweak that to add a field and take away two. I've only seen one proposal so far that seems to have any chance of being adopted to change the template in the near to mid-term, that of Category:Wiki Size.

Your quite extensive proposal here looks really fantastic! Very thorough and well-thought-through.

It seems to me the real work comes in figuring out how such a proposal will become reality. You or I individually might be able to bring a few pages/week up to this standard. This seems like an overwhelming task. And which pages would be targeted first? The biggest wikis first? In order? That might make some sense. What about thinking about this in waves, so that more pages here could be touched sooner, with incremental improvements (one section at a time, perhaps)?

I'm just brainstorming, thinking about the enormity of the potential for work here. And is it more important to have an entry for every wiki or is it more important to extensively cover the biggest wiki?

Of course you're free to impliment this however you like, as long as it doesn't get in the way somehow (I can't see how it would, even if you only use this plan for one or two wikis).

This page is my attempt to remedy a problem that I had when I looked at some of the WikiIndex articles, which I thought were so minimal as to be almost useless for anyone who wanted to know about the Wikis themselves. The current template looks like it was designed by people who were mostly concerned with the meta-wiki issues.

What I've tried to do is answer the question: "What would I want to see in a Wiki's entry in the WikiIndex?"

One thing that you can always do is once a Wiki article has been created, you should visit that Wiki and find someplace (the Community Portal discussion page or Administrator's page?) to announce that the article has been created, invite members of that Wiki to expand the article, and ask to have the WikiIndex added to that Wiki's list of interwiki links.

Probably the best way to go about adding more info to the Wiki articles is to work on the largest and/or most influential Wikis first, although I would assume that many editors will spend much of their time editing the articles on thoses Wikis they are most familar with, or are Wikis on topics that they are most interested in.
