Memory Alpha is a series of Fandom television community entertainment wiki sites hosted by Wikia in various wiki languages; a free user-editable encyclopedia and reference for the Star Trek science fiction franchise of television series' and movies. Written collaboratively by its readers, Memory Alpha's goal is to become the largest, most reliable, and most up-to-date encyclopedia about everything related to the Star Trek universe.
Inspired by Wikipedia, a free, open-source encyclopedia; the Memory Alpha project began in November 2003 as a means of allowing Star Trek fans to collectively contribute timely and useful reference information on the Star Trek universe to a singular website. It was named for Memory Alpha, the planet that hosted the central library of the United Federation of Planets.
- Warning: Memory Alpha contains spoilers! For any movie that has opened in the United States, or television episode that has streamed in its nationwide time slot in the United States, that material is considered fair game for inclusion in articles. See our spoiler policy for more information.
It should be noted that the Memory Alpha series of wikis is not endorsed, sponsored, or affiliated in any way with CBS Studios Inc., or its 'Star Trek' franchise. Furthermore, it is recognised that all Star Trek trademarks, logos, and related names are owned and / or retained by CBS Studios Inc., and are used here on WikiIndex under 'fair use' guidelines. In respect of the Wikia wikis, the latest user-created content is released under the Creative Commmons Attribution Non-Commercial license version 4.0 (CC-BY-NC 4.0). Earlier content was released under the earlier iterations of the CC-BY-NC licences (CC-BY-NC 2.5, CC-BY-NC 2.0, and CC-BY-NC 1.0); and the content added before January 2004 was released under the GNU Free Documentation License (GNU FDL, or GFDL).[1] Wikia is at pains to stress the importance of Memory Alpha: Copyrights.[2]
