WikiIndex talk:Naming conventions: Difference between revisions

I think that the present guidelines present a problem with naming articles for [[:Category:Wikimedia Foundation|Wikimedia]] wikis and any similar wikis.  https://www.Wikipedia.org, for example, is just a gateway to wikipedias in over 120 languages.  The [[Wikipedia]] article should be a general overview of those Wikipedias.  I think there should also be [[WikiIndex]] articles on at least the Top 10 or Top 20 Wikipedias.  For this to happen, the article names should probably be the Wiki's URL (minus <tt><nowiki>http://</nowiki></tt>), so the article for the English-language Wikipedia would be at 'en.wikipedia.org', the Japanese-languages Wikipedia would be at 'ja.wikipedia.org', etc. [[User:BlankVerse|BlankVerse]] 05:23, 16 Mar 2006 (EST)

Following on from the above standard, the basic wiki engine will be a subcategory of  [[:Category:Wiki Engine]], and will have an infobox rendered via the <tt>{{template|Wiki Engine}}</tt> template (now with a orange border).  However, if the said wiki engine also has its own wiki - say as a management administration 'help desk' or similar, then it will also have its own separate article in the main namespace, and will have its infobox rendered via the standard <tt>{{template|Wiki}}</tt> template (with the default black border); with the description prose clearly detailing the relationship between the namespace wiki article to the category wiki engine.

====wiki farms====

Wiki farms will follow the same format - the basic wiki farm will be a subcategory of  [[:Category:Wiki farm]], the infobox will be rendered via the <tt>{{template|Wiki Farm}}</tt> (now with a green border), and any wikis used for the administration of the said engine will be in the main namespace, eg, for [[Wikkii.com]], add <tt><nowiki>[[Category:Wikkii| ]]</nowiki></tt> at the bottom of the edit box.
