'''Category: Archived''' — this specific [[Special:Categories|category]] here on WikiIndex is a complimentary addition to classify former [[What is a Wiki|wiki sites]] that are permanently gone for good, never to return; and therefore listed in [[:category: Dead]].  This [[category]] was created because [[:Category:All|WikiIndex]] is more than just a 'yellow page' for [[wiki]]s.  We <u>do</u> record history here on WikiIndex: how and [[:Category:Wiki age|when]] wikis are created, who [[Founder|founded]] them, what keeps them alive, and, sadly, how they went [[Template:Down|down]].  For [[:Category:Wiki people|wiki people]] dedicated to the craft that is 'wiki', history of wiki sites <u>is still valuable content</u>.

The wiki sites listed in this category below (collapse and / or scroll down past the [[:Category:Wiki status|wiki status]] [[Template:Wiki status|comparison table]]) have been verified as '{{tag|dead}}'; ie, completely gone for good, and their URLs may either return a '{{Wp|HTTP 404|404}}' error, or may display the site of a domain name host, or [[:Category:Advertising|advertising]], or be taken over by cyber-squatters.  However, we have identified that these dead wikis fortunately may have some (or even all) their former [[article]] pages captured and stored by one of the [[web archiving]] services; such as the '''''WaybackMachine''''' from the Internet Archive at '''<tt>[[Archive.org]]</tt>'''[https://web.Archive.org], or the '''''Webpage archive''''' from archive.today at '''<tt>[[archive.is]]</tt>'''[https://archive.is] (formerly at <tt>archive.today</tt>), or any other credible digital archiving service with free public access.

To include a [[:Category:All|wiki site]] article page, and / or a [[:Category:Wiki engine|wiki engine]] (article or category page), and / or a [[:Category:Wiki farm|wiki farm]] (article or category) to <u>this</u> specific 'Archived' [[category]]; you <u>must</u> first verify that <u>more than</u> the [[Wiki main page|main page]] is saved as an archive, ''<u>and</u>'' that at least ''some'' of the actual content pages are also archived (ideally, a significant quantity of the dead wiki site / engine / farm has been archived).  If so, first, [[edit]] the relevant article or category page here on WikiIndex to change all existing (dead) URLs in the said dead wiki site / engine / farm article to those of the actual archived URLs from their appropriate archiving service ([[Archive.org]] and / or [[archive.is]]); in the [[Template:Wiki|wiki infobox template]] (or other appropriate [[:Category:Infobox template|infobox template]], such as [[Template:Wiki engine|wiki engine]] or [[Template:Wiki farm|wiki farm]]), the [[Template:Size|size template]], and any other wiki URLs which may be included within the prose.  Secondly, 'tag' the word <tt>archived</tt> somewhere within the prose of the article if possible; alternatively, add <tt><nowiki>[[Category:Archived]]</nowiki></tt> at the <u>bottom</u> of the relevant dead wiki site / engine / farm article [[edit box]].
