Hi, please review [[:Category:Pages for deletion|Category:Pages for deletion]] and delete those pages. Several pages have accumulated during the absence of the administrators. Thanks. --[[User:Usa11|Usa11]] ([[User talk:Usa11|talk]]) 16:37, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

==Welcome back!==
:Good day, thanks for welcoming me. I created a new user page so that's okay, thanks anyway for the proposal. For the wikis that I have marked as to be deleted, they are all unreachable through archive sites such as archive.org, so the actual existence of those wikis is questioned. --[[User:Usa11|Usa11]] ([[User talk:Usa11|talk]]) 12:07, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

was never a logically correct sentence anyway. You can be promoted to Admin. If(!) You are getting active, then You are an active admin. One can not promote You towards 'active admin'. And, since You explicitly declared Yourself as inactive that time, it was only consequent to remove this tag. The purpose of this tag is, to collect '''active''' admins  in this cat: [[:Category:Active administrators of this wiki]] so one knows to whom to turn in case one needs their help. To turn to You around that time of Your hiatus, was obviously futile. So I removed this tag in service of the help-searchers. I did not do that with other admins, because they did not explicitly declare their inactivity since I was there. I did not declare You might not be admin any more, like Koavf did in [http://wikiindex.org/index.php?title=User:Hoof_Hearted&diff=prev&oldid=192575 this edit] which was certainly inappropriate. incels dot wiki was legitimately stolen from the creators and main writers of the material itself, (this is a moderated wiki with only like 3-4 particularly active users ever) and since it was stolen, at least one writer (Wizard32) has put on very sketchy URLs on at least one page of incels dot wiki, which they haven't removed for months.  They host it on their server, which also hosts a site of theirs which we've found is under heavy investigation by law enforcement. They own sanctionedsuicide and we shouldn't be advertising anything on their servers imho.

Hello, Hoof Hearted. The reason why I did these [[redirect]] is simple: those wikis never existed. They were invented by [[User:Jason]]. I was around on the [[wikisphere]] on May/June 2015 - even if I wasn't editing here - and I saw how the users from Rex Wikia '''wanted to''' [[fork]] the wiki to [[Rex.wiki]], but they never did it '''actually'''. I know how we treat dead wikis here. I hope it's not a problem if I don't undo the redirects, but it's obvious that you can do it yourself if needed. Best regards :-) --[[User:TheTVFan|TheTVFan]] ([[User talk:TheTVFan|talk]]) 04:41, 28 January 2017 (PST)
*"Rome prosecutors on Monday blocked an Internet site that hosted a community created to help young people to kill themselves following a probe into the recent suicides of two Italian teenagers. The community on the Sanctioned Suicide site had 17,000 members from all over the world."
:OK, if they never actually existed, then there is no need to undo the redirect. I trust you are aware of the [[:Category:in preparation]] status for wiki that are being created, but not yet launched?

'''This is not a group I would trust as a source on even their own sites''' Following reports of minors on their sanctionedsuicide.com (now sanctioned-suicide.org) dying, Epik dropped all their sites, followed by what seems to be Tucows or Njalla.  Years ago it was Afilias that dropped all their sites.

== What's happening? ==
"In the United States, anyone under the age of 18 is legally a minor.  There is no ambiguity here. These are children, the site operators, and members know it, yet continue to discuss the act of suicide in great detail as if they are above or beyond both legal or moral reach." --owner of fixthe26th

Hello. I'm asking this question you because you are very active. On the bottom of every page, when I edit, this error appears: "Expansion depth limit exceeded" - "This is not a free wiki hosting site". It is repeated about 50 times. Do you know what the problem is? :-) --[[User:TheTVFan|TheTVFan]] ([[User talk:TheTVFan|talk]]) 09:25, 2 February 2017 (PST)
I don't think we should be advertising any sites on their server, especially considering what seem to be sketchy URLs on .wiki rn that was added by a writer after they stole it. The owners of those sites call themselves 'master' and 'sergeantincel', they own incels.is (formerly incels.co/incels.me)/sanctionedsuicide etc, and have been dropped by multiple registrars.
:'''Expansion depth''' See [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Avoiding_MediaWiki_expansion_depth_limit here]. Not sure why it's happening to you--are you transcluding lots of pages or templates. [[User:Koavf|Koavf]] ([[User talk:Koavf|talk]]) 09:42, 2 February 2017 (PST)
::Koavf, thank you for your reply. It does not happen when I'm editing templates, but on simple pages. See [http://imgur.com/3gPePnb this screenshot], which clarifies the section in which the message appears. I think it's a system bug. Also, what's happening on [[List of wikis by number of pages|this page]]? Best, --[[User:TheTVFan|TheTVFan]] ([[User talk:TheTVFan|talk]]) 10:04, 2 February 2017 (PST)
:::'''Templates''' Initially, I wrote "The problem isn't ''editing'' templates as such but ''using excessive templates'' in any namespace (including transcluding too many templates into a template--that happens sometimes). Can you show me a page on the wiki which has this problem now? I did a search but could not see any." Then I looked down! It ''looks'' like there is a problem with [[MediaWiki:Edittools]]. I'm investigating now... Regarding that page, I have no clue what's going on--I may need to export it as XML to even view it properly. I asked Brandon about it awhile ago but didn't get a response--he is too preoccupied to help here. [[User:Koavf|Koavf]] ([[User talk:Koavf|talk]]) 11:46, 2 February 2017 (PST)
::::Indeed, I didn't understand what you meant before. As of now, I don't see the expansion depth problem anymore. Thanks for solving it. --[[User:TheTVFan|TheTVFan]] ([[User talk:TheTVFan|talk]]) 12:50, 2 February 2017 (PST)

== Wiki template ==
Which is why I moved the article I wrote to .com.  We have nothing to do with incels.is and their sites/wikis.  They just let us use a mediawiki installation for a year until they hijacked it.  They lorded it over us the entire time and always tried to push sociopathy on the wiki.  We created their "general disclaimer" ourselves, and also individually released under CC on our talk pages so they couldn't have them claim we weren't who we were after the new domain.  Since we released under CC individually on talk pages, we aren't pursuing legal options against .wiki but we do have discord records of them claiming that we owned it. (Discord allows exports of private conservations, and retains deleted messages)  But .wiki is mostly inactive compared to .com, and is dramatically smaller as well.  It's our wiki stuck in 2018 plus garbage they added after they banned everyone.  .com also has 5 languages. 14:53, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for all your great work: I'm glad to see you taking ownership around here again. Of course, I'm here to complain but on pages like [[Federated wiki (concept)]], you've used semantic elements that don't match the content, like a semi-colon to start a definition list but all you really want is bold. [[User:Koavf|Koavf]] ([[User talk:Koavf|talk]]) 03:31, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
:I'm confused! [[Federated wiki (concept)]] (the article) does not have any semantic data, because it does not use use the {{Template|Wiki}} infobox template.  Semantic MediaWiki will only work with semantic data from Semantic Forms, and they can only work from correctly coded templates such as infoboxes. Or am I missing something else? ::Yeah, pardon me: I think my earlier post was too vague. Starting a line with a semi-colon will create a [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/dl description or definition list]. These liss should be followed by one or more items that start with a colon. E.g. below:

::Etc. If you want to make something bold, use three apostrophes: this will employ the [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/b b or bring to attention element]. If you start a definition list but don't follow it with definitions, that's poor HTML semantics and is confusing to things like search engines indexing pages or screen readers attempting to vocalize the content of a page, etc. Does that make sense? :::Ah, okay, I understand your point now.  Thanks for clarifying, and sorry for my delay in replying – I was sleeping on my thoughtsHoweverrrrr, I am not sure I 100% agree – though I am open to further reasoning.  My understanding, and please forgive me if I'm wrong, I thought that [[:Category:MediaWiki|MediaWiki]] is based on [[wikitext]], rather than [[:Category:HTML|HTML]]?  I accept that MediaWiki still relies on a small number of HTML elements (along with [[:Category:Cascading Style Sheets|CSS]], {{Wp|Unicode}}, and [[:Category:JavaScript|JavaScript]]), particularly where there is no direct corresponding function within wikitext; a few examples being: <tt><nowiki><bdi></nowiki></tt>, <tt><nowiki><pre></nowiki></tt>, <tt><nowiki></nowiki></tt>, and <tt><nowiki></nowiki></tt>.  But there are many more elements that are considered highly verboten within wikitext (especially such as MediaWiki), examples <tt><nowiki><dl>, <dt>, and <dd></nowiki></tt> (for descriptions, which you eloquently show above with use of the colon and semi-colon), <tt><nowiki><ol></nowiki></tt> (for numbered lists, wikitext uses the hash), <tt><nowiki><h1> to <h6></nowiki></tt> (for levels of section headings, wikitext uses the equals sign - and I would imagine any editor on Wikipedia who used HTML to create section heading to be robustly chastised!), <tt><nowiki><p></nowiki></tt> (for creating paragraphs, when a simple carriage return suffices for wikitext).

== Question ==
:::Finally, and I guess this goes back to the original reason for your comment to me, search engine optimisation and performance.  Again, my own thinking here; because articles here on WikiIndex are generally (a) very small, when compared to Wikipedia pages, and (b) follow a nigh-on identical format and structure (for articles on wiki, wiki engines, wiki farms, and wiki people) – do we actually need section headings (apart from long articles, or when section headings are highly desirable to separate specific areas within the prose)?  And a follow-on from that, if yes, is there any quantifiable value in a search engine indexing say the section(s) on references and / or external links?  Surely, surely, surely, for those who search and then find WikiIndex in search providers, we want search results to KEEP folks here in WikiIndex, rather than display searches for external links / sources which will take folks AWAY from WikiIndex?

Hi Sean, why remove this, [http://wikiindex.org/index.php?title=WikiIndex_talk:Add_a_Wiki&curid=2813&diff=198560&oldid=198553 just curious]? Best, Mark

::::Thanks for the thoughtful response. To be clear, my main motivation is proper semantics for accessibility's sake and then things like machine indexing and search engine optimization, etc. Whatever we insert as MediaWiki's code (such as <nowiki>'''bold'''</nowiki> text) gets output as HTML because that's what everything on the Web is, so misusing tags—either by directly inputting the HTML or by using some wikitext that is then converted into HTML—is bad. I don't know that we need headings on pages that are short but I'll defer to you if you prefer one style over another. I do think that making a good outline structure is good for things like generating outlines with OPML or having anchors in a page that are linkable but it's not something that I think is urgent. :Hello.  As a general rule, here on WikiIndex, we do not delete articles on wiki which ''some'' people might find offensive or upsetting.  I have spent considerable time reading CWCki, along with its Wikipedia article and associated WP talk page.

Looking at the history of the now undeleted user page I would not know why one would even think of deleting it. In case I would have witnessed those edits, I'd rather ask the user if he needs some help, why he deleted his introductory sentence and if he can provide some links to his WP accounts. But I imagine, Alvaro has seen worth misunderstandings and is not lasting deterred. ;-) --[[User_talk:Manorainjan|'''<span style="color: orange;">Manorainjan</span>''']] 09:38, 27 September 2017 (PDT)
:This is my own personal comments.  First and foremost, I do not like CWCki - I do not like the way they obsessively detail every minute detail of the life of the person who is the subject of said wiki.  However, I must stress in the strongest possible way - my own personal dislike is absolutely not grounds to delete its entry here on WikiIndex. Saying that, I agree that our own article needs a considerable re-write.  Unfortunately, I am just not familiar enough with the content of the wiki overall, so it would not be appropriate for me to submit my own thoughts.

==Voluptious domains?==
:As to the Wikipedia article, I find the tone of its coverage very alarmingStrong viewpoints are endemic in that WP article, and there is much bias, and very little neutrality. ::::''modern browsers are able to render such URLs '' Minor nit: browsers don't care, and indeed, they should not mess with URL case at all, except to parse off the domain name and pass it off to its Domain Name Server, which is responsible for case folding and returning an IP address. Hi, an IP editor here (who doesn't have file/move rights). Could you please assess [[:Category:Wiki site requiring logo upload‎|logo upload]] and [[:Category:Articles to be renamed|article rename]] categories? :Not an accident. I removed the Arabic script because its presence was causing issues when editing – it was trying to force right-to-left reading – which is fine in an all-arabic script page, but is unacceptable on pages of overwhelming roman script language. Its presence was, when editing, incorrectly deleting unintended text. Thankfully, I nearly always preview before saving, and noticed its effects. But it took me about 8 previews before I realised (a) the pattern of effect, and then (b) the cause.  As soon as I deleted the Arabic script (and saved it), the editing problem vanished.

:I am personally not comfortable with the excessive proliferation of languages here on WikiIndex – for a number of issues, and especially so with the actual method we are using.  We should go back to basics, and let the long-established and well-proven methods carry out translation – online translation services from the likes of Google and Bing work fantastic, and there are other services such as [[translatewiki.net]] for when permanent translations are required. I don't think it's nice to shove it as the first thing people read when they visit the wiki, especially in that demeaning voice. :The specific news sub-page has always previously been for [[sysop]]s to announce WikiIndex-only changes, or subjects of interests. [[WikiIndex talk:Community portal]] was the specific page where all WikiIndex editors, even [[IP editor]]s post and discuss wider wikisphere interests.  Allowing anyone to post anything in the news section is diluting the meaning of the news page - especially so when we allow errant editors (who have clearly upset MANY other wiki communities) to be so prominent - I strongly feel that that is bad for our diminished community!  There are certain specific wiki pages which are sacrosanct, and our news page should be one of them!
:I have to agree to that. This wiki should not get politicized. It shall not become the pressure relief valve for people who got no other place to express their political frustrations. Compared to this outdated remark about Türkiye (which is the proper name of that nation) the censorship for everything Russian in EU is massive and hypocritical as can be. :I think the reason [[:Category:Semantic MediaWiki|SMW]] didn't gain much traction and reach out to a wider audience is probably two-foldFirst, it was never supported by Wikimedia Foundation - which sorta pushed SMW onto the ropes before it even got out of its corner; second, SMW is actually quite a difficult and unforgiving bunch of softwareWhilst I understand the fundamental principles of SMW, and understand its very real value of enabling wikis into highly structured data, I think that marrying SMW to MediaWiki would cause severe problemsNot in compatibility, more so because MediaWiki is just so <u>easy</u> for even the most illiterate software users to grasp, whereas SMW probably requires a degree in computer programming to get the best out of it! I think had the proposed MediaWiki Foundation (the one for specific independent MW users) taken off, there ''could'' have been a real opportunity for SMW.org to merge, or at least form a much closer partnership with MWF.  And there is real need for advanced data handling in wikis - the business world are turning to the likes of [[:Category:Socialtext|Socialtext]] (which combines wiki with advanced social networking, high level data handling and spreadsheet functions) or [[:Category:EditMe|EditMe]] (similar to Socialtext, without the strong emphasis on social networking, but concentrating on data, spreadsheet and CMS).

:Wikidata is strange.  It is capable of comprehensive data, but it isn't structured in orthodox formats of relational databases, nor even the lesser data handling features of spreadsheetsThe quality of data is at the peril of Wikipedia editors - ''some'' data is well referenced, but an awful lot is general info sourced from quite literally anywhere on the 'net.  One example is when Wikidata is relying on IMDb for referencing - yet IMDb is exactly like Wikipedia - user-generated content (usually fandom) - and so can not be consistently relied upon.

==[[WikiIndex:Merge policy|Merge policy?]]==
::I still run into the question of, if we're going to tone down the vanity and edgy content, then what's left? Vanity and edgy content is usually what's most fun and interesting. That's where all the personality and drama are. Otherwise, it's like, "Okay, we'll put a few statistics here for each wiki, and add each wiki to a few categories, and call it a day."
I checked the [[Althistory]] page, and it says that the page should be merged with another one. OK so far, a long time ago I did that at WP, and kinda remember it also involves merging the histories so nothing is lost. But what is WI's merging policy actually? It's still a red link...--[[User:Max Sinister|Max Sinister]] ([[User talk:Max Sinister|talk]]) 23:55, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
:You are indeed correct that our merge policy is still a red link :-p  Indeed, many basic policies were red links until the last few years!  I will endeavour to make a start on that specific policy very soon.

::You have a bureaucrat here who's from RationalWiki, and they always have to try to look good to their fellow RationalWikians by trying to suppress anyone they view as a crackpot or crank or whatever. I think what happened was that everyone started taking themselves (and their wikis) way too seriously in the wikisphere. Wikis are mostly about (1) fandom and (2) scientific/technical documentation of some kind or another.
:The actual mechanism for [[Special:MergeHistory|Merging]] can only be carried out by [[sysop]]s, due to the licensing need to retain [[edit history]] (and [[attribution]]) of both articles.  Whilst the merge function is automated, it does need oversight - because not every edit can be merged - so discretion needs to be observed before actioning it.

::In both cases, what people are doing is a little bit absurd. Technical documentation created by the wiki process will usually be incomplete and presented in an inconsistent way, due to the fact that the documentation has been left to the community, without much active direction by any one editor-in-chief whose job is to standardize everything. Even a site like MediaWiki.org doesn't really escape from the pervasive tendency toward fandom that affects all wikis. For example, there are a lot of unusual MediaWiki extensions listed there, since anyone can list whatever extension they want. Eccentricity is part of the charm of wikis, though.
:Regarding the Althistory, and indeed all merge requests - sometimes, an editor may mark an article for merging (in good faith) - when in fact, it should remain in its own right.  Aside any genuine but accidental duplicate entries - the most common reason for mistakenly tagging for a merge is when a wiki site has changed host by way of [[fork]]ing (and instead of creating a new article for the new host - an editor may simply update the original wiki site to the URLs of the new host!).  The original wiki site, at its original host should be preserved as its own article here (annotating its status if necessary as abandoned or dead), and using a hat-note template to point to any new host. I notice that it was [[User talk:Ismael755|Ismael755]] who added the merge tag to [[Althistory]] (I think I was on an extended wiki break at that time - personal issues), and he also added a new article [[Alternate Future Wiki]]. Glancing very briefly, it appears that both sites co-existed, though I guess they now are merged into one site on Wikia. There is also the same issue with [[Future]] and [[The Future Wiki]]!

::As for the fandom, there's also an element of absurdity there, because people will take a seemingly frivolous topic and document it in a serious way, down to the smallest detail, and even cover every possible way of looking at minor ambiguities. So for example, they'll analyze the meaning of various minor events in Christian Weston Chandler's life, and correlate them together into various trends.
:In summary, if two articles have been created about an identical site on an identical host - the articles should be merged.  But if they are or were two separate wiki sites (even if say on Wikia), but have themselves since merged (usually by Wikia), the article here referring to the 'original' (even if dead) should be retained - and ideally archived links found to support it.

::Then there are these supposedly lighthearted wikis (like RationalWiki, when it first started) where they say, "Let's make fun of all these nutjobs." Yet in doing this, they take themselves very seriously because they want to present a contrast between themselves (who are probably very weird, as we all are; some just keep it hidden better than others) and these weirdos they're documenting and mocking. In a way, they're taking a cowardly path by trying to be so "normal" because the easiest way to never err, or never look foolish, is just to conform to those around you. But progress comes from being a nonconformist and taking some risks. Anyway, they have to purge anyone who would give them a bad reputation, because they and their wiki are just so gosh darn important and it would be a shame to waste all that credibility they've built up.
:Hope that makes sense! :) [[User:Hoof Hearted|<big>Sean P</big>, <small>''aka'' Hoof Hearted</small>]] • [[:Category:Active administrators of this wiki|Admin]] / [[WikiIndex:Bureaucrats|'Crat]] / [[Staff]] • <small>[[User talk:Hoof Hearted|talk2HH]]</small> 00:36, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

::On wikis like that, people will get into fights and take strong positions about stuff that, in reality, they could be wrong about. For example, if you read Hitler's ''Mein Kampf'', there's quite a lot of stuff in there that's plausible. Can't say that on a site like RW, though. And probably you couldn't say it on, say, your Wikipedia userpage either. Wikipedia has to keep bringing in those donations by avoiding controversies that will lead to negative media coverage. After all, when it comes down to it, Wikimedia has a lot to hide. They have a lot of money, yet they keep begging for more, and they waste it on big salaries for unnecessary staff. It's actually pretty scandalous, but the media doesn't call them out on it because Wikimedia is mostly pretty aligned with the left-of-center mainstream media bias. (Wikimedia is also pretty well aligned with the values of its Silicon Valley funders, most notably Google.)
:: OK, I'll have to think about this a bit. But thanks for stating the merge policy.--[[User:Max Sinister|Max Sinister]] ([[User talk:Max Sinister|talk]]) 04:42, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

::The way that Wikipedia arbitrators operate is like a corporate HR department -- increasingly, they speak in a dehumanized legalese and shroud their decision-making process in as much secrecy as possible. Also, just like in a major corporation, the elections are pretty meaningless to the average plebe. If you own a few shares of stock in a company, and you get a proxy to vote on, do you really know who any of these board member candidates are, or have any idea which ones would be best to elect? These arbitrator candidates are pretty obscure too. And at any rate, a lot of the more interesting users, who might have been agents of change by running for ArbCom, have been banned and therefore aren't eligible to run. Or they quit the project in disgust after they get burnt out.
==Blocked me==
Hello Sean,

::Being "welcome" is a fuzzy concept sometimes. I've been told point-blank that I'm not welcome on any Wikimedia site. Yet, sometimes after I get unmasked (aka checkusered) and kicked off again, someone will say that I should try to get right with Wikimedia so I can come back. If they were going to be strict about saying that I'm unwelcome there, they should tell that user, "Don't encourage him." Maybe they just happen to know that what people say to me won't have much effect on me, so they don't even bother to tell anyone, "Don't encourage him."
Not sure what I was doing to look like a spammer, but thought I would ask:  https://wikiindex.org/Special:Contributions/172.26.30.192  Best, [[MarkDilley]]
:Hello  Mark.  Apologies if I somehow managed to block you. There is a bug somewhere in our software, and that IP address requested an account, which I approved. And they then created a blatant spam page - [[Ndifreke Ukpong]] - which clearly had nothing to do with any wiki!

::It's a little like rape, actually. On a politically correct site like RationalWiki, or even in the libertarian movement, people will say that rape is a very black-and-white concept. I've come to view it as more of a fuzzy or even, in some cases, meaningless concept. A girl says that she was too drunk to consent. There's no breathalyzer record; nobody knows what her exact BAC was. (And even if we did know what it was, the law doesn't specify what level of intoxication makes her unable to consent.) Was it rape, or no? That's for a jury to decide. If they don't like the defendant, maybe they'll decide he raped her. Heck, even her own perceptions of whether she was raped are probably colored by her perceptions of the guy.
:Checking the [[Special:Block/172.26.30.192|block log for that IP]], they are only restricted from editing as an anon IP editor. They are still able to create new accounts, or login from existing accounts. So genuine registered users should not be blocked!

::We have all these women coming out of the woodwork now saying that they were sexually harassed. Was it bothering them all that time, or did it just start bothering them now? Or, was their perception conditioned on how events unfolded? E.g., they might have interpreted it as something other than harassment, until a bunch of other women started coming forward and saying these kinds of incidents were harassment?
:Another guy on MediaWiki.org also commented that our software configuration has bugs which are preventing password recovery emails, and Karsten also concerned about our buggy config. ::One thing I do know, is that women get excited by guys who are willing to cross boundaries into being inappropriate. They like the guy who will bang them in some public place where they might get caught, for instance. They like the guy who keeps going even after they say "stop". They like the guy who gets them drunk at the bar and then takes them home and ravishes them. (That was the whole point of showing up at an establishment where alcoholic beverages are served, wearing an outfit that reveals about 90 percent of her body.) They like the guy who's a little bit of a rebel, and breaks a few rules. There's a little bit of that primal instinct in young women that makes them just want to be violently taken, the way they were before civilization existed. It's like riding a roller coaster; there's a thrill in the loss of control.
::Gotcha. Thanks for your responsiveness and clarity Sean, as always!  What are the steps we can take to update/upgrade our software configuration?  Best, [[MarkDilley]]

::There are plenty of guys who wouldn't do any of that stuff. A lot of times, the hot girls reject those guys as too boring. I think there are some women who were in the Miss Universe Pageant who now are saying that Trump objectified them. Uh, ladies, it's a beauty pageant. Are you going to throw a steak in front of a dog and then complain, "Hey, he was just supposed to look at it, not eat it"? Maybe they should've brought a chaperone, but that would've been no fun, because then they wouldn't have had some billionaire grabbing them by the ... well anyway. ::::I think leftists do that all the time. Feminists will compare everything to rape, and Jews will compare everything to the Holocaust (because they have the privilege of being exempted from Godwin's law, since their people were actually subjected to the original Holocaust, which would make it antisemitic to object to their bringing it up, since we have to keep the memory fresh and always say 'never again' and be vigilant about anything that might resemble Nazism to keep it from re-occuring).

::::People who ask questions that others don't want asked are unwelcome. People who present information or ideas that conflict with the narrative people are trying to present are unwelcome.

::::Why was ''The Daily Stormer'' kicked off the normie web? Why do people condone DDoS attacks against them (the same way they condone punching Richard Spencer in the face)? Because, if someone stands there and presents an argument for why it's okay to harm someone, that's considered almost equivalent to actually harming them, and therefore people think censorship (in the case of DDoS attacks, basically the heckler's veto) and violence are appropriate in response.
== Small trouble with a vandal ==

::::What is ''The Daily Stormer''? Mostly a comedy site. Are they cool with James Fields running over a bunch of people in Charlottesville? Some of them probably are. But, when it was a normie web site, there probably were a few more moderate people hanging out too. We can expect that when it's pushed into Tor-land, it's probably going to become more extreme, plus there's less transparency; the public is not going to be able to as easily directly monitor what they're up to, unless they go out of their way to get onto Tor and take a look. The whole point of pushing the site onto Tor was to make it harder for people to access.
Hi! I'm a wiki editor for the [[Independent Fallout Wiki]] and I had to deal with a vandal on our page. Essentially, an anon edit posted links to something completely irrelevant to the subject matter, as well as posting misinformation that really had no relation to the article. They also dead-named on our admins.

::::What was [[ChildPorn.info]]? A site consisting of info about legislation, case law, and academicians. (See the [[Talk:ChildPorn.info#List_of_articles|list of articles]].) The WikiIndex entry had to be deleted, though, because ... why? Because at that time there was a general purge of entries on childlove-related wikis, and certain "vanity" pages. Well, okay, but then WikiIndex is no longer seeking to be a comprehensive and unbiased directory. One would have to list these forbidden sites somewhere else. It's now necessary to have at least two directories (one for the politically correct content, and another for the non-politically correct content) rather than just one directory.
I was curious if there's any counter-measured to prevent this? Thanks! [[User:C0NN1E|C0NN1E]] ([[User talk:C0NN1E|talk]]) 13:56, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

::::My guess is that the second directory would be interesting, but of course there has to be someone to set it up and run it, and that doesn't always happen. For one thing, the dissidents don't always get along with one another. For example, Andrew Anglin doesn't like having to be on the same Torweb that pedos use.

::::Progress often comes from being edgy. To think clearly, sometimes you have to take ideas to their logical conclusions. Get rid of the radical dissidents, and you get rid of a lot of people who are in the habit of going outside the Overton window to see what are ALL the possible implications of a certain way of thinking.
::Hi again, Hoof Hearted! It looks like the same IP returned a week later trying to remove constructive edits on the same page. I marked their user page under the <nowiki>{{vandal}}</nowiki> template. [[User:C0NN1E|C0NN1E]] ([[User talk:C0NN1E|talk]]) 20:51, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

::::So, we all end up retreating back to whatever wikis favor our own viewpoints, and we preach to the choir rather than having a real discourse between opposing views. Because of course, a real debate, with actual opponents who are there to counter-argue against your counter-arguments, is dangerous. When you just have a wiki where you say, "They guys say x, but that's silly because y," then you don't have to worry about them showing up and saying, "But what about z?" That way, you can win every argument.

::::We have a system now where, if you want to speak freely about ideas that are outside the Overton window, you basically have to sacrifice your whole life to do it. Andrew Anglin has to keep his location hidden so that he doesn't get served with lawsuits. Others have had SJWs call up their workplace and get them fired from jobs. So, the dissidents end up retreating even further, to wikis, Discord servers, etc. that aren't even known to the general public. I probably spend about half or two-thirds of my time on a non-public wiki that isn't listed on WikiIndex and never will be. The owner of it has it set up that way so that he can continue working at a corporate job and earning six figures and living in the suburbs with his wife and kid. It's that "Nazi next door" phenomenon, except unlike Tony Hovater, he's going to try to stay out of the ''New York Times''.

Hey, Hoof! I don't know if you're the right person to ask for this, but many old Fandom (Wikia) sites still have [[wikiindex:]] interwiki link set to http://wikiindex.com/$1. ::::Part of the appeal of Nazism was that the left had gotten so bad, that fascism didn't seem like an unreasonable alternative. They are, at least, more honest about what they want. They don't talk about a fake "equality" that can never exist. They actually say that they're out for supremacy. It's a little refreshing to not have to deal with all this intellectually dishonest, hypocritical sanctimony. If there's going to be oppression and domination of the weak by the strong, then we might as well call it what it is, rather than saying, "Oh, we have to suppress some counter-revolutionaries so we can protect the public and advance toward a better society." That argument only works if the commies are, actually, improving society. [[User:Leucosticte|Leucosticte]] ([[User talk:Leucosticte|talk]]) 16:59, 12 December 2017 (PST)

:::::See and this is another reason why you are unwelcomed in some contexts: a massive messiah complex. It's not "edgy" or "cool" to provide a thin veneer of respectability to having sex with children. But the problem is not just that you are in favor of an open dialogue on these repugnant things, nor that you insist on interjecting them into conversations where they are wholly inappropriate, but that you also seem to think you're a great enlightener of the masses who should be praised for taking everyday situations as a pretense for talking about how genocidal maniacs had some good points. This is all in addition to laughably inaccurate claims like neo-Nazi sites basically being for the lulz and how the left-wing is really if you think about it ultimately responsible for the most repugnant reactionary fascism. I think the point you were making earlier is that you are somehow befuddled by how others don't like you and this is exactly the reason why. ==RMS Titanic Wiki‎s==
Hi,

just worked on [[RMS Titanic Wiki‎]] and created a template for its sister wikis. Please check it whether it's OK that way.

Also, I'm wondering about this website: [https://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/introduction.html Encyclopedia Titanica]. Does this fit in here? It's an online database for a specific topic with a community, but OTOH, it doesn't seem to be a real wiki, esp. since it was started in 1996.--[[User:Max Sinister|Max Sinister]] ([[User talk:Max Sinister|talk]]) 00:54, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

:The Titanic template is fantastic!  Thank you.  As for Encyclopedia Titanica, that does not use any known wiki software (from what I can ascertain), so it really has no place here.  Regards, [[User:Hoof Hearted|<big>Sean P</big>, <small>''aka'' Hoof Hearted</small>]] • [[:Category:Active administrators of this wiki|Admin]] / [[WikiIndex:Bureaucrats|'Crat]] / [[Staff]] • <small>[[User talk:Hoof Hearted|talk2HH]]</small> 15:49, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Somehow I don't feel satisfied with the various communities I'm a member of. You know about so many wikis. Can you recommend one to me which has science and/or fiction as a topic, and an intelligent user base? Maybe one with restricted access?

A warm welcome to my talk / discussion page, 192.168.144.2 :-)

If you wish to talk to me about a new subject not already listed here, please click on the 'new section' (or '+') tab at the top of the screen to start a new subject. Or if you wish to reply to an existing comment (either on my talk page or any other talk page), please click on the section [edit] to the right of the relevant subject header line, and please indent your replies with one (or more) colon(s) (:) as appropriate. Please, PLEASE add your signature (-- ~~~~) to all comments or replies you make.

If comments or questions are asked on this page, I will leave my answer here (so please add my talk page to your 'watchlist'). For comments or questions left on other pages, my replies or answers will be left on those specific pages (so again, please add those to your watchlist if you wish to follow any replies).

If you miss previous discussions (which are now no longer visible), you may look through any historical items of discussion by clicking on the 'history' tab at the top of the page. Occasionally, I might remove and archive completed topics which may no longer be relevant, and there is no point in having a cluttered talk page!

Pages for deletion[edit]

Good day, thanks for welcoming me. I created a new user page so that's okay, thanks anyway for the proposal. For the wikis that I have marked as to be deleted, they are all unreachable through archive sites such as archive.org, so the actual existence of those wikis is questioned. --Usa11 (talk) 12:07, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

incels dot wiki vs incelwiki.com[edit]

incels dot wiki was legitimately stolen from the creators and main writers of the material itself, (this is a moderated wiki with only like 3-4 particularly active users ever) and since it was stolen, at least one writer (Wizard32) has put on very sketchy URLs on at least one page of incels dot wiki, which they haven't removed for months. They host it on their server, which also hosts a site of theirs which we've found is under heavy investigation by law enforcement. They own sanctionedsuicide and we shouldn't be advertising anything on their servers imho.

This is not a group I would trust as a source on even their own sites Following reports of minors on their sanctionedsuicide.com (now sanctioned-suicide.org) dying, Epik dropped all their sites, followed by what seems to be Tucows or Njalla. Years ago it was Afilias that dropped all their sites.

"In the United States, anyone under the age of 18 is legally a minor. There is no ambiguity here. These are children, the site operators, and members know it, yet continue to discuss the act of suicide in great detail as if they are above or beyond both legal or moral reach." --owner of fixthe26th

Sources:

If you still want to keep incels.wiki on, can we have our own page? We also run a huge wiki farm and can add our others, most of which have nothing to do with incels William Lupinacci (talk) 15:06, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Semantics on pages[edit]

Thanks for all your great work: I'm glad to see you taking ownership around here again. Of course, I'm here to complain but on pages like Federated wiki (concept), you've used semantic elements that don't match the content, like a semi-colon to start a definition list but all you really want is bold. Koavf (talk) 03:31, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

I'm confused! Federated wiki (concept) (the article) does not have any semantic data, because it does not use use the {{Wiki}} infobox template. Semantic MediaWiki will only work with semantic data from Semantic Forms, and they can only work from correctly coded templates such as infoboxes. Or am I missing something else? Sean, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crattalk2HH 22:47, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, pardon me: I think my earlier post was too vague. Starting a line with a semi-colon will create a description or definition list. These liss should be followed by one or more items that start with a colon. E.g. below:
Hoof Hearted
A user at WikiIndex
An all-around kewl d00d
My friend
Etc. If you want to make something bold, use three apostrophes: this will employ the b or bring to attention element. If you start a definition list but don't follow it with definitions, that's poor HTML semantics and is confusing to things like search engines indexing pages or screen readers attempting to vocalize the content of a page, etc. Does that make sense? Koavf (talk) 23:05, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Ah, okay, I understand your point now. Thanks for clarifying, and sorry for my delay in replying – I was sleeping on my thoughts! Howeverrrrr, I am not sure I 100% agree – though I am open to further reasoning. My understanding, and please forgive me if I'm wrong, I thought that MediaWiki is based on wikitext, rather than HTML? I accept that MediaWiki still relies on a small number of HTML elements (along with CSS, Unicode, and JavaScript), particularly where there is no direct corresponding function within wikitext; a few examples being: <bdi>, <pre>, , and . But there are many more elements that are considered highly verboten within wikitext (especially such as MediaWiki), examples <dl>, <dt>, and <dd> (for descriptions, which you eloquently show above with use of the colon and semi-colon), <ol> (for numbered lists, wikitext uses the hash), <h1> to <h6> (for levels of section headings, wikitext uses the equals sign - and I would imagine any editor on Wikipedia who used HTML to create section heading to be robustly chastised!), <p> (for creating paragraphs, when a simple carriage return suffices for wikitext).
As for robots, indexers, and accessibility assisted technologies, I was under the impression that they all worked on the rendered page, rather than its constructed elements? Again, please correct me if I am wrong.
Finally, and I guess this goes back to the original reason for your comment to me, search engine optimisation and performance.
I greatly appreciate your learned advice and expertise. WikiIndex is a lonely ship to steer alone! Best regards always, Sean, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crattalk2HH 14:54, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the thoughtful response. To be clear, my main motivation is proper semantics for accessibility's sake and then things like machine indexing and search engine optimization, etc. Whatever we insert as MediaWiki's code (such as '''bold''' text) gets output as HTML because that's what everything on the Web is, so misusing tags—either by directly inputting the HTML or by using some wikitext that is then converted into HTML—is bad. I don't know that we need headings on pages that are short but I'll defer to you if you prefer one style over another. I do think that making a good outline structure is good for things like generating outlines with OPML or having anchors in a page that are linkable but it's not something that I think is urgent. Koavf (talk) 15:02, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Editing others' comments[edit]

I'm not sure that I understand this spate of edits. Why are you adding links into others' posts on a user talk page? Koavf (talk) 03:27, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

I think that it is very helpful to add wikilinks, as they provide valuable backlinks, and breadcrumbs to any previous discussions on said subjects. I personally always use backlinks to find established consensus, or other trains of thought when trying to improve all articles here on WikiIndex, including policy.
I accept that it is forbidden to edit other users talk pages on Wikipedia - but we are NOT Wikipedia, and we have no need to be bound by their policies! Best regards. Sean, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crattalk2HH 22:43, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

CWCki[edit]

I wonder if you could review whether the CWCki can remain on this wiki or whether a substantial rewrite is needed? The wiki is linked with a website that has been accused of stalking and vulnerable users, and I have to tell you that the subject of the wiki is one of the victims.

Further info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiwi_Farms and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Kiwi_Farms

172.26.22.41 00:47, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello. As a general rule, here on WikiIndex, we do not delete articles on wiki which some people might find offensive or upsetting. I have spent considerable time reading CWCki, along with its Wikipedia article and associated WP talk page.
This is my own personal comments.
As to the Wikipedia article, I find the tone of its coverage very alarming. Strong viewpoints are endemic in that WP article, and there is much bias, and very little neutrality. Discussions on its talk page continuously highlight those issues, but without any real action on balancing and toning down the WP article!
In light of my comments, please feel free to edit our entry here on WikiIndex. Of course, please ensure that your own additons are both factual and neutral. Kind regards. Sean, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crattalk2HH 02:06, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Thumbnails for new images are broken for some reason, Mediawiki can't fnd /usr/bin/convert[edit]

So new images aren't working to add to the wiki pages

It says "Error creating thumbnail: /bin/bash: /usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory Error code: 127" You probaby need to install imagemagick or configure the imagemagick location in LocalSettings.php

Other people's prior image upload attempts also resulted in failure as shown here https://wikiindex.org/special:filelist

Hello William, and thanks for your message. Sadly, WikiIndex has a few long-standing bugs which never seem to get fixed. I am just a 'crat and regular editor here, and I don't have server access. The owner of WikiIndex is Raymond King, and he also uses Rathbone to make edits; but sadly, he is not very active. Maybe you can email Ray King and remind him of ongoing problems? It might add more timber to the fire if another person contact him. Keep me in the loop please William. Best regards, --Sean, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crattalk2HH 00:15, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

Turkey on the main page[edit]

I don't think it's nice to shove it as the first thing people read when they visit the wiki, especially in that demeaning voice. It's good to know about Turkey's censorship (among many other problems), but at least water it down and don't make it political, because there are much worse things than having a wiki blocked. Imagine it saying "Thank goodness not all countries are like United States!!!! Cherish your school/market not getting sh0t down every other day!" -172.26.1.10 15:43, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

As utterly tragic and heartbreaking the many school shootings in the US are - unless there is a wiki site which deals with the said issue, it has no place here on WikiIndex. Kind regards Sean, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crattalk2HH 14:54, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
I have to agree to that. This wiki should not get politicized. It shall not become the pressure relief valve for people who got no other place to express their political frustrations. Compared to this outdated remark about Türkiye (which is the proper name of that nation) the censorship for everything Russian in EU is massive and hypocritical as can be. We should not get involved into this mess here at all. --Manorainjan 06:01, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
Manorainjan, firstly, you have been warned multiple times by other editors, admins and crats on this site about about changing section headings. This is your last warning. Stop - or you will be permanently blocked! Since its inception, WikiIndex has always used the anglophile names for all countries. This has been the consensus since 2006; no other WikiIndex editor or reader has had issue with this. If you do not agree with the consensus and rules here on WikiIndex, go find another wiki which you do like!
Regarding the comment of Turkey on the main page, WikiIndex is a wiki site about all wikis. That includes ALL aspects of wikis - including access and censorship. If a country - not once - but TWICE blocks total access within its entire country - breaking a fundamental European Union law on Human Rights - it is perfectly acceptable to highlight such issues!
Regarding your comment on the Russia vs EU issue - if it is affecting any aspect of wiki - find the necessary information, and provide independent citations to verify said issue. Otherwise, that has no place here on WikiIndex. Kind regards Sean, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crattalk2HH 14:54, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

The Wiki Rule[edit]

TV Tropes used to have an article with this name. We might use it as a resource for further wikis to add. [1] [2] — preceding unsigned comment added by Max Sinister (talkcontribs) – 01:22, 15 October 2022‎ (UTC).

Why is it called a "rule"? --Manorainjan 09:00, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
I think it is just their naming conventions and their inclusion policy maybe? I confess I am not a follower of tropes of any kind. But the older version of that page is certainly a valid resource to add any missing wiki sites here on WikiIndex, so please go ahead and add them. Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 16:13, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Image error[edit]

Howdy! Thank you for the account approval. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but I uploaded a logo for Whiki, but it seems to have thrown an error on thumbnailing (that can be seen at here). When I tried to add it to the category article and sizing it down to 180px, it also seems to have thrown an error on the category page — any idea what is wrong with it? Original Authority (talk) 03:50, 25 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out. Sadly, we have some bugs in our software which cause problems with image display. If you look at Special:NewFiles, you will see that many file uploads fail to display thumbnail, and many will also fail to display at any manually selected pixel size other than their original upload size. Regrettably, I don't have server access, so I am not able to resolve this issue (and I have no expertise in in that area). My only suggestion is to manually resize logos to a maximum 300px and then upload again. Apologies for not being able to offer a better solution. Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 15:29, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
Ah, thank you! I've successfully uploaded a new version of the image — are you able to delete File:Whiki_Logo.png if possible, please? Original Authority (talk) 07:35, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Now deleted. Thanks for your understanding. And welcome again. Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 14:26, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Merge policy?[edit]

I checked the Althistory page, and it says that the page should be merged with another one. OK so far, a long time ago I did that at WP, and kinda remember it also involves merging the histories so nothing is lost. But what is WI's merging policy actually? It's still a red link...--Max Sinister (talk) 23:55, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

You are indeed correct that our merge policy is still a red link :-p Indeed, many basic policies were red links until the last few years! I will endeavour to make a start on that specific policy very soon.
The actual mechanism for Merging can only be carried out by sysops, due to the licensing need to retain edit history (and attribution) of both articles. Whilst the merge function is automated, it does need oversight - because not every edit can be merged - so discretion needs to be observed before actioning it.
Regarding the Althistory, and indeed all merge requests - sometimes, an editor may mark an article for merging (in good faith) - when in fact, it should remain in its own right. Aside any genuine but accidental duplicate entries - the most common reason for mistakenly tagging for a merge is when a wiki site has changed host by way of forking (and instead of creating a new article for the new host - an editor may simply update the original wiki site to the URLs of the new host!). The original wiki site, at its original host should be preserved as its own article here (annotating its status if necessary as abandoned or dead), and using a hat-note template to point to any new host. I notice that it was Ismael755 who added the merge tag to Althistory (I think I was on an extended wiki break at that time - personal issues), and he also added a new article Alternate Future Wiki. Glancing very briefly, it appears that both sites co-existed, though I guess they now are merged into one site on Wikia. There is also the same issue with Future and The Future Wiki!
In summary, if two articles have been created about an identical site on an identical host - the articles should be merged. But if they are or were two separate wiki sites (even if say on Wikia), but have themselves since merged (usually by Wikia), the article here referring to the 'original' (even if dead) should be retained - and ideally archived links found to support it.
Hope that makes sense! :) Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 00:36, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
OK, I'll have to think about this a bit. But thanks for stating the merge policy.--Max Sinister (talk) 04:42, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

Blocked me[edit]

Hello Sean,

Not sure what I was doing to look like a spammer, but thought I would ask: https://wikiindex.org/Special:Contributions/172.26.30.192 Best, MarkDilley

Hello Mark. Apologies if I somehow managed to block you. There is a bug somewhere in our software, and that IP address requested an account, which I approved. And they then created a blatant spam page - Ndifreke Ukpong - which clearly had nothing to do with any wiki!
Checking the block log for that IP, they are only restricted from editing as an anon IP editor. They are still able to create new accounts, or login from existing accounts. So genuine registered users should not be blocked!
Another guy on MediaWiki.org also commented that our software configuration has bugs which are preventing password recovery emails, and Karsten also concerned about our buggy config. Regards Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 12:52, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
Gotcha. Thanks for your responsiveness and clarity Sean, as always! What are the steps we can take to update/upgrade our software configuration? Best, MarkDilley
I am no expert on MediaWiki hosting, so I can not advise!
I am not sure if you have spoken with Ray recently - because Karsten Hoffmeyer (Kghbln) emailed me recently, and offered to host WikiIndex on his own ProWiki host, and upgrade the necessary software (though he never indicated any price!). Karsten would actually be a great fit for WikiIndex, because he is also an expert with Semantic MediaWiki. Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 14:16, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Small trouble with a vandal[edit]

Hi! I'm a wiki editor for the Independent Fallout Wiki and I had to deal with a vandal on our page. Essentially, an anon edit posted links to something completely irrelevant to the subject matter, as well as posting misinformation that really had no relation to the article. They also dead-named on our admins.

I was curious if there's any counter-measured to prevent this? Thanks! C0NN1E (talk) 13:56, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Hello C0NN1E, welcome to WikiIndex. I'm sorry for not noticing the vandalism. I now blocked the IP for one week, but if you notice anyone who is spamming or vandalising articles, please tag their user page or user talk page with either {{vandal}} or {{spammer}}. Best regards, and happy new year! Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 14:24, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
Hi again, Hoof Hearted! It looks like the same IP returned a week later trying to remove constructive edits on the same page. I marked their user page under the {{vandal}} template. C0NN1E (talk) 20:51, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

Wiki Farm name change procedure?[edit]

Howdy! I just wanted to check in to clarify someting. Whiki has changed names and is now known as Telepedia—what should I do with the article and categories, and the pages that follow, such as Whiki Meta Wiki. Should I create new articles and mark Whiki as dead, and add a hat note? Or is there some other procedure for this (such as merging, or editing the original article etc.) Just wanted to double check before making edits! :) --Original Authority (talk) 06:21, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi, and sorry for the delay in replying.
Do you have URLs for Telepedia? And do you know the rationale for the name change?
Depending on the reasons or cause of the name change, we would either redirect to their new name, or mark as dead and create new!  :-/ Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 21:24, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Redirecting WikiIndex-dot-com URL to subpage[edit]

Hey, Hoof! I don't know if you're the right person to ask for this, but many old Fandom (Wikia) sites still have [[wikiindex:]] interwiki link set to http://wikiindex.com/$1. For examples, see cities.fandom (a.k.a. Cities Wiki), list.fandom (WikiLists) and the Star Trek wiki, memory-alpha.fandom (Memory Alpha).

The problem is, https://wikiindex.com/aaaa or any URL to dot-com with any subpage just redirects to the homepage (https://wikiindex.org). Thoughts on fixing how that domain redirection is set up? —AStranger195 (talk) 13:21, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello, to get that issue fixed, you need to ask on Wikia Community Central (en) to get one of their Interwiki Administrators to update their global interwiki table - including updating many to https. That is unfortunately out of control of WikiIndex. Best regards Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 17:47, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
What about fixing it on your end, and fixing all legacy interwiki links in the process? Doesn't WikiIndex have control of the wikiindex.com domain? --AStranger195 (talk) 05:52, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
I am not sure about the Wikiindex dot com domain. Maybe you can email our owner, Raymond King, as he may still own the dot com domain.
As for Wikia or Fandom, they have zero interest in cooperation with external wiki sites. Indeed, Wikia removed many of the tools used for creating relationships between themselves and non-Wikia sites a long time ago! Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 15:07, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
I have control of the name, but don't have the technical skills. I'd be happy to give it a try if someone can make it easy for me. Raymond King | talk

Please see the message on the following talk page, adding this CSS code will fix the tab issue[edit]

MediaWiki talk:Vector.css

I can't edit it myself because I'm not an administrator. William Lupinacci (talk) 22:28, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

RMS Titanic Wiki‎s[edit]

Hi,

just worked on RMS Titanic Wiki‎ and created a template for its sister wikis. Please check it whether it's OK that way.

Also, I'm wondering about this website: Encyclopedia Titanica. Does this fit in here? It's an online database for a specific topic with a community, but OTOH, it doesn't seem to be a real wiki, esp. since it was started in 1996.--Max Sinister (talk) 00:54, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

The Titanic template is fantastic! Thank you. As for Encyclopedia Titanica, that does not use any known wiki software (from what I can ascertain), so it really has no place here. Regards, Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 15:49, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
You're welcome. I'll make a multi-language template for the James Bond wikis next.--Max Sinister (talk) 07:27, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
A James Bond template will be awesome, thanks. Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 11:24, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

Login problem[edit]

This month I got an odd login error: I wanted to log in, but got an error message that I had no cookies activated. My browser settings were the same as they are now, and as you can see, I am logged in. --Max Sinister (talk) 09:37, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

Which browser are you using? For me, when I use Safari on my Mac, I regularly get cookie warnings for sites which I know that I have already accepted, and it frequently logs me out of sites which I regularly use. I never have those issues when using Opera browser! Regards. Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 11:03, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

Do you know a wiki with a smart user community?[edit]

Somehow I don't feel satisfied with the various communities I'm a member of. You know about so many wikis. Can you recommend one to me which has science and/or fiction as a topic, and an intelligent user base? Maybe one with restricted access?

TIA, --Max Sinister (talk) 20:40, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello, and apologies for late reply. Apart from trawling through Category:Science, it is difficult for me to make personal recommendations. SklogWiki is a high-level science wiki, run by a former WikiIndex editor. Psiram appears to be a quality site, its German language version is fairly active. RationalWiki (en) includes lots of science, as do the various Category:Uncyclopedias. Best regards, Sean P, aka Hoof HeartedAdmin / 'Crat / Stafftalk2HH 11:36, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for your suggestions. For SklogWiki I don't have the right background, and RationalWiki has many readworthy articles, but the userbase has detoriated IMO. Still thanks for Psiram, I'll have to look at it.--Max Sinister (talk) 02:59, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Redirect Please[edit]

Please can you make this page https://wikiindex.org/Taerel_Worldbuilding_Wiki Redirect to Taerel Wiki and merge content as fitting please? 172.26.16.215 22:23, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

Are you OK, Sean?[edit]

For some weeks (it feels like it), I've tried to login, but the wiki was always down. That's why I wondered whether something had happened to you.--Max Sinister (talk) 21:30, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Spammer alert[edit]

172.26.16.37 inserted handbag ads on the Alternativgeschichte-Wiki page. Could you ban him?--Max Sinister (talk) 13:02, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
