Description

The Consumerium project, presently visible only as a Development Wiki, is "where fair trade, political consumerism, and moral purchasing trends, all essential to our philosophy, are being pieced together into what we call moral purchasing power." all quotes from its Main Page. In other words, to help consumers find and express their moral choices as buying choices.

"Consumerium itself is a not-for-profit project to enable display of product information to consumers and feedback to the producers to enhance the consumer experience and to keep this planet as hospitable as possible." The eventual goal of the project is to provide simple buying information such as buy/don't or price premium data at point of purchase, probably via cell phones. If nothing else, the project serves as a critical patent block against private parties making such networks difficult to set up by patenting the basic design principles of a consumer information network. Should the Consumerium design be realized, it would be impossible for usurpers to "buy" the network, "sue" it into hiding, or "subvert" its data. It plans to cascade data between three wikis and publish only the most credible and defensible data to the phones, while making all data visible on the web. For further protection and certainty of contributor privacy, it maintains troll-friendly policies (OpenEdit, no outing, no witchhunt, no ad hominem revert, no out of process delete etc.). Consumerium itself contributed significantly to the analysis of sysop vandalism which damaged Wikipedia in 2003-4.

A couple of ways to start exploring Consumerium are the Brief introduction and Consudev:FAQ articles. There are also other essential projects, such as Simple English Wikipedia (.org) (http://simple.wikipedia.org) and Sourcewatch.org (http://www.sourcewatch.org) and many others that we hope to introduce you to.

We are collaborating under the GFDL license, to design a healthy buying infrastructure. We are identifying hardware requirements for storage, transport and display of varying levels of product information to consumers and feedback to producers at the point of purchase to enhance the consumer experience, advance product development and to keep this planet as hospitable as possible.

There are currently 1151 articles of Consumerium development related work.
