A check user is a person (user) on a wiki who has access to see what IP addresses other users have been editing from. Check user privileges tend to be reserved for the most trusted users, typically an existing 'crat or sysop, since check user information can be used in ways that can cause real-world consequences for other users, as when it is exposed what a user's identity, employer, etc. are.
