The openSUSE project is a worldwide effort that promotes the use of Linux open source free software everywhere. openSUSE creates one of the world's best Linux distributions, working together in an open, transparent and friendly manner as part of the worldwide Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) community. The project is controlled by its community, and relies on the contributions of individuals, working as testers, writers, translators, usability experts, artists, and ambassadors or developers. The project embraces a wide variety of technology, people with different levels of expertise, speaking different languages and having different cultural backgrounds.
The openSUSE wiki sites are the developer's community wiki site for information about the openSUSE project and distribution. The openSUSE goal is to provide high quality documentation and a place for collaboration on all parts of the project. This is done in a well structured, standardised, and easy readable way. Content is created, edited, and refined by all community members.
The wiki sites all use the popular MediaWiki software, which is modified with a custom skin. The wiki content is released under a contradictory, and conflicting license – at the foot of every wiki page, it claims copyright to "Novell, Inc. and others"; yet in the same line, also states "All content is made available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License version 1.2 (GFDL v1.2) unless expressly otherwise indicated"!
