Category: Intranet — This specific category here on WikiIndex contains wiki-sites and/or other articles about the subject of the intranet. The intranet is best described as an 'internal internet', or a network that is contained within a 'garden wall', based upon the principles of the World Wide Web. They are typically used by companies, organizations, educational establishments, or governmental departments; for their internal communications, and are usually private to non-authorized access. Accordingly, many corporate intranets may contain their own private wiki-sites.

The intranet is analogous with extranet, which is an intranet that can be accessed (usually in limited capacity) by outside users, and can facilitate direct, private, and secure 'business to business' (B2B) communications.
