Category:Wiki lists

The "root category" of this WikiIndex wiki is Category:Browse. This Wiki Lists category is a direct child, or subcategory of Browse, and it contains different ways of listing wikis. If and when this category is cleaned up, it will only contain categories that explain a system for listing wikis (these should probably in turn contain categories that are actually applied to wikis.

Here are subcategories that are correctly placed here:

• For Browsing:
  • Category:All — the least picky category of all – every single wiki that's not "Category:Inactive".
  • Category:Wiki Age — this contains categories for the founding date of the wiki, like "Category:FoundedIn2005", and so on.
  • Category:Wiki Edit Mode — this contains categories describing who is allowed to edit the wiki.
  • Category:Wiki Engine — wikis run on wiki software, and there are many different types of wiki software – this is for categorizing them that way.
  • Category:Wiki Language — this contains categories describing the primary language in which the wiki is written in (and not its subject matter).
  • Category:Wiki Status — this contains labels for "how the wiki's community is fairing".
  • Category:Wiki Topic — wikis have content, remember? – what topic(s) or subject matter does the content fall under? – (this category has hundreds of subcategories that probably need to be turned into their own tree.)
  • Category:Wiki License — lists the specific license or licenses under which the content of the wiki is released.
  • Category:Wiki Location — categories for describing a wiki's connection to geographic places.
  • Category:Wiki Size — how many articles does the wiki have? – categories like LessThan10, MoreThan10, MoreThan20, and MoreThan50, etc, right up to those wikis with a million pages or more.
  • Category:wikiFactor — describes the impact or importance of a wiki.
  • Category:Wiki Backups — lists those wikis which have been 'backed up', with the URL of said backup file.
• For Editing:
  • Category:Unknown — wikis are included in this when their page needs to be added to particular kinds of Unknown categories in the above Browsing categories.
  • Category:Wikis to add — for wikis that have a 'skeleton' page here at WikiIndex, but need the Wiki template added, or have the template, but the information hasn't been filled in yet. Make pages with nothing but the URL for a wiki... and add {{add}}, or use the new wiki form on Community Portal so that the wiki's page will show up here.
