Description[edit]

k2g2 was spearheading the brains and crafts movement of the 21st century, taking a hackers perspective on everything from handicraft to crafting machines.

Craftopedia[edit]

The k2g2 Craftopedia is an encyclopedia for krafty knerds and geek girls. The main language of the Craftopedia is English, but it's multilingual in nature. Contributions in languages other than English are highly encouraged.

Community[edit]

The Craftopedia extended its scope to all things crafty, providing community portals for various topics; such as knitting, embroidery, and beading.

Community portals[edit]

Calendar[edit]

All community members are encouraged to contribute to the k2g2 calendar to announce crafty events in their home country.

Blogs[edit]

Selected community members may create their own crafty blogs at k2g2 (by invitation). The blog entries are tightly integrated with the wiki, pointing the reader towards Craftopedia topics for further reading.

How-tos[edit]

Selected community members may also publish tutorials at k2g2 (by invitation). The how-tos provide a hands-on perspective on some of the more abstract concepts explained inside the Craftopedia.

License[edit]

Craftopedia articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 license (CC-BY-SA 3.0). The copyright for blogs entries and how-tos however remains with the respective authors.

History[edit]

k2g2 originally spelled out as a Knitting Knerd's Guide to the Galaxy, which is actually a pun on the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy (h2g2), a pan-galactic encyclopaedia, that may have served as inspiration for Wikipedia. In 2004, the k2g2 community surfaced on Orkut by the name Knitting Knerds and Geek Girls, and in early 2009 the k2g2 Craftopedia went online at www.k2g2.org and www.Craftopedia.org.
