"Hatta is a wiki engine – software that lets you run a wiki site. It requires no configuration, and can be easily started in any Mercurial repository". Hatta takes its name from the Mad Hatter in Lewis Carroll's books. "In the days of yore hatters often became mad because of mercury poisoning. This wiki engine is mad as a hatter because it uses a Mercurial repository to store its pages."
Hatta, a re-write of the former Dandelion, is written in Python, and is released as free software (without a fee) under the GNU General Public License v2 (GPL v2). Hatta will run on Linux, Unix, Windows, and Mac OSX. Hatta is available in fifteen (15) interface languages: Arabic, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, English, Spanish, Estonian, Finnish, French, Hungarian, Japanese, Polish, Russian, and Swedish.
"You can clone, merge and synchronize your wikis by cloning, merging or synchronizing the repositories. You can keep a local copy of it, and run Hatta locally on your laptop – then upload the changes when they are ready".
It looks like Hatta could be used to build a high-availability wiki. Building a wiki on top of a distributed version control system, such as Mercurial, may be good way to build a fault-tolerant, high-availability wiki.
- Is it for you?
Hatta is supposed to be a simple, little program requiring no configuration. It can be used mainly for note-taking and project documentation. It is not suited for running encyclopedia or a content management system for your company, though. It's not even suitable for running a blog.
The Hatta Wiki documents the Hatta wiki engine. Includes a list of features as well as What Sucks.
