Water is a chemical substance whose molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, designated by its chemical formula H2O. Water exists on earth as a liquid at temperatures above 0 degrees Celsius, a solid at 0 degrees Celsius and below, and a gas at temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius (at a mean sea level atmospheric pressure).

Water is necessary for the sustenance of life on earth, as much of the living organisms on earth are comprised of water to a great extent.
