Panopedia was the free and familiar encyclopedia. Unlike Wikipedia, the authors of articles are clearly identified and known.

What do we mean when we say that Panopedia is free and familiar? It is free in the sense that it is freely available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 2.5 license (CC-BY-ND 2.5), and it is familiar in the sense that authors are transparent. You can clearly identify who wrote an article and become familiar with that author. Like the Wikipedia, Panopedia is a free user-contributed encyclopedia. Anyone can contribute, but, unlike Wikipedia, we do not permit IP-edittors or other anonymous authors.

Article authors provide a full profile that is verified and verifiable. This is called transparency because the identity of authors can be clearly seen. Users can become authors and edittors. Authors write the articles. Edittors manage the Panopedia Taxonomy; how the articles are organized. Authors put their real names onto articles, and collaborate on articles by mutual consent. And any author can provide supplementary or alternative contributions. Any user can comment upon an article, provide information, and urge changes.

Panopedia articles are original articles that are written by Panopedia contributors.
