::Usually it's necessary to redact [[mw:Manual:Database_fields_containing_sensitive_data|sensitive data]] anyway, or export it as XML files or something. You can create your own backup by setting up a script to export everything. I've done it before. It is kind of a PITA, though. There was also [[mw:User:Leucosticte/Doing the Newgon stuff]], instructions for exporting stuff from NewgonWiki.
