Founded as an English language wiki site on 5 January [[:Category:Founded in 2005|2005]] by [[Jonathan Huang]] (also known as Chronarion) and '[[Uncyclopedia.com:User:Stillwaters|Stillwaters]]', and initially [[:Category:Independent|independently]] hosted, Uncyclopedia has expanded to over 80 different [[:Category:Wiki language|language]] versions.  After the the original wiki sites {{Cambridge-Dictionary|outgrow|outgrew}} their independent hosting, on 26 May 2005, [[Angela Beesley Starling|Angela Beesley]], Vice President of [[:Category:Wikia|Wikia, Inc.]], announced that Wikia would host [[Uncyclopedia]], and that the site's [[:Category:Wiki license|license]] and {{Cambridge-Dictionary|domain}} name would remain {{Cambridge-Dictionary|unchanged}}; on 10 July 2006, Huang transferred the Uncyclopedia.org domain rights to Wikia, Inc.  Many other language versions also moved to Wikia, however, this {{Cambridge-Dictionary|subsequently}} proved to be a mistake, as Wikia totally failed to {{Cambridge-Dictionary|respect}} (''verb'') the terms of the specific [[:Category:Wiki Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike|Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike 3.0 license]] (by generating {{Cambridge-Dictionary|revenue}} from the [[:Category:Advertising|adverts]] that were displayed on the Wikia-hosted Uncyclopaedia wiki sites).  As more language versions were subsequently added to the Uncyclopedia fold, many wisely chose to avoid Wikia, and used an independent host.  Relations between Uncyclopedia wiki sites and Wikia continued to worsen over time (as did many other wiki sites hosted on Wikia), and the end result was that all Uncyclopedia wikis [[:Category:Ex-Wikia|were forced off Wikia]] in late 2019, which Wikia conveniently '{{Cambridge-Dictionary|claim}}ed' was [[:Category:Ex-Wikia due to censorship|due to censorship]]!

Today, no Uncyclopedia wiki sites survive on Wikia; many of the different language versions are now 'officially' hosted by (or directly {{Cambridge-Dictionary|affiliated}} with) the {{tag|Uncyclomedia Foundation}} (at <tt><nowiki>*</nowiki>.Uncyclomedia.org</tt>, and its {{Cambridge-Dictionary|unofficial}} but closely related <tt><nowiki>*</nowiki>.Uncyclopedia.co</tt>).  Other Uncyclopedia sites have chosen an alternative [[wiki farm]] as their host (including [[:Category:Miraheze|Miraheze]]), and a small number have chosen a totally independent host.
