Hi, 172.69.6.203, a warm welcome to my user page. I'm Hoof Hearted (not my real name . . . it is merely a cryptic nickname I gained as a result of producing excessive <cough> wind (or 'gas' if you are left of the pond!), due to a genetic disorder, which also makes me allergic to many strong flavours in vegetables. ;-( I am from England in the United Kingdom (UK), and my mother christened me with my first name of Sean (with the correct spelling :p ).
I'd like to think I am contributing in a useful manner here on WikiIndex, although sadly I'm also prone to taking an odd <cough> sabbatical occasionally. :-/ In June 2011, as a reward for my hearty efforts here on WikiIndex, I was 'promoted' to an administrator, and a short while later to bureaucrat – one of the members of a truly great team! If you'd like to talk to me, please leave me a message on my talk page, thanks.
My ToDo list – feel free to dive in and help me out if you wish :-p
If I've gone AWOL, you might find me here, and you'll find a little more about my username <NSFW - wink>!!

En.OxfordDictionaries.com— was great for English, not so good for Engrish :-p- En.OxfordDictionaries.com, the worlds original and most authoritative English language dictionary owned and hosted by Oxford University Press (OUP), was previously sold to an American commercial company, Lexico.com, and whilst Lexico originally continued to use official Oxford English Dictionary (OED) definitions (and listed both British English and American English variations); in August 2022, Lexico.com is now owned by Dictionary.com, LLC. Sadly, all OED definitions have disappeared from Dictionary.com, and it frankly has some very serious errors. Its entry for aircraftsman is factually incorrect (it is categorically NOT a 'noncommissioned officer in the RAF'). Its entry for RAF lists some blatantly incorrect example uses of 'RAF'!
- Dictionary.Cambridge.org — from Cambridge University Press. Now our preferred English language online dictionary, listing definitions in both British English and American English variations (where applicable); this has an interwiki, use [[Cambridge-Dictionary:***|***]], replacing asterisks with actual word (usually lowercase leading letter). Now also has an interwiki template: {{Cambridge-Dictionary}}.

About WikiIndex
- Current WikiIndex statistics
- The current server time for WikiIndex is 00:49 (UTC) on Tuesday 24 December 2024 (well it was when you loaded this page :-P) . . . click on the orange refresh tab (if you are logged-in) at the top of the page, or press Ctrl+F5 on your keyboard to update the time.
- WikiIndex is currently running MediaWiki version 1.39.6, which was originally released 31 March 2015 (and we are happy with our geriatric version, thank you!); together with a few plugins, notably Semantic MediaWiki v.2.1.3 (SMW), which means our infoboxes require carefully detailed and accurate 'structured data'.
- WikiIndex currently has 22,025 article pages of valid content (out of 37,692 total pages) and a total of 291,452 edits, and our WikiIndex community is maintained by a body count of 8 currently active people in the last 30 days, from a total of 12,952 users, since our foundation in 2006.
- WikiIndex currently has 17 admins, though not all are active; more info here; and are headed by our bureaucrats and staff.
- Our local WikiIndex interwiki table is able to show how experienced MediaWiki users can create links to external wiki sites (and also general non-wiki websites which are relevant to 'wiki'); and crucually, these 'interwiki links' look visually very similar to the standard default internal wikilink which is used to link to other pages on the same wiki site.
Wiki tips
- if a subject wiki site specifically uses a lower-case leading letter – maybe on a subject such as iPad, iMacros, iOS, or eBay, use
{{DISPLAYTITLE:articleName}}
at the top of the article edit box to display the article name correctly with its appropriate lowercase leading letter. You can also use{{DISPLAYTITLE:Talk:articleName}}
on any related talk page, and the similar format for all namespaces and their talk pages. - an alternative method - {{lcfirst:{{PAGENAME}}}}
- the
{{PAGESINCATEGORY:Category name|pages}}
magic word will display the actual number of pages within a category, ideally in prose
Internationalising
- On all File: pages
- for the 'Summary' heading, use: {{int:filedesc}};
- for the 'Licencing' heading, use: {{int:license-header}}, or [[:Category:License|{{int:license-header}}]].
