Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) is eine freie Erweiterung von MediaWiki – dem Wiki-System auf dem auch Wikipedia aufbaut – mit der die Inhalte eines Wikis durchsucht, organisiert, gebrowsed, ausgewertet und mit anderen geteilt werden können. Währed traditionelle Wikis nur Texte enthalten, die Computer weder verstehen noch auswerten können, fügt SMW semantische Annotationen hinzu, und bringt so die Möglichkeiten des Semantic Web ins Wiki. Seit 2008, Semantic MediaWiki organisiert zweimal jährlich Konferenzen, in ähnlicher Weise zu Wikimania, die derzeit unter dem SMWCon Namen, die Frühling Ereignisse in Nordamerika statt, und der Herbst (Fall) in Europa (in der Regel in den Vereinigten Staaten statt und Deutschland).

Semantic MediaWiki is the wiki for Semantic-MediaWiki.org, aka SMW. SMW, founded in Germany, is a free open-source semantic plug-in extension for the MediaWiki wiki engine that enables users to add semantic data to wiki pages. This data can then be used for better searching, browsing, and exchanging of information. Among many other sites, Semantic MediaWiki also powers SemanticWeb.org. Current information about Semantic MediaWiki can be found on its wiki, which also contains the complete user documentation. Semantic MediaWiki is part of the greater Semantic Web project. Since 2008, Semantic MediaWiki also organises twice-yearly conferences, in a similar vein to Wikimania, currently under the SMWCon name; the Spring events are held in North America, and the Autumn (Fall) are held in Europe (typically the United States and Germany).

Semantic MediaWiki wiki has content available in a number of languages; namely: English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Dutch, Russian and Chinese – though it should be noted that these languages are not sub-domains of the primary SMW wiki site (like is found say on Wikipedia).

Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) est une extension libre de MediaWiki – le logiciel sur lequel est basé Wikipedia – qui permet de rechercher, organiser, baliser, naviguer, évaluer et partager le contenu d'un wiki. Alors que les wikis traditionnels ne peuvent contenir que du texte ne pouvant être ni compris, ni évalué par les ordinateurs, SMW ajoute des annotations sémantiques permettant à un wiki de fonctionner comme une base de données collaborative. Depuis 2008, Semantic MediaWiki organise également deux fois par an à des conférences, dans une veine similaire à Wikimania, actuellement sous le nom SMWCon, les événements du printemps ont lieu en Amérique du Nord, et l'automne (automne) sont organisées en Europe (généralement aux États-Unis et Allemagne).
