Only [[:Category:Active administrators of this wiki|administrators]] can delete pages.  Anyone can mark pages for deletion using [[template:Delete]]; as in '''{{Template|delete}}'''.  It is preferable that you also include a reason after a pipe (<code><nowiki>|</nowiki></code>) in the delete template, for example: <code><nowiki>{{delete|this is spam}}</nowiki></code>, or <code><nowiki>{{delete|see discussion on its talk page}}</nowiki></code>.  This reason will be displayed in bold within the rendered template banner.  Once marked with the delete template, these pages automatically go into [[:category:Pages for deletion]] so that a {{tag|WikiIndex}} {{tag|admin}}istrator can review the delete request, and take any appropriate action.

It is crucial to note, instead of deleting a specific page (maybe due to a typo, or a wiki site rename), in order to create it at another article page name, one must <u>always</u> use the '[[move]]' function which simply [[Help:Renaming pages|renames an existing page]]!

Please note, we do <u>not</u> delete defunct, obsolete, dormant, offline, or abandoned [[wiki]] entries here on WikiIndex; we keep them all as a matter of posterity.  We simply [[Special:Categories|re-categorize]] them into one of the other sub-categories of [[:category:Wiki status]].  The preferred method is to change the <tt>|status = </tt>&nbsp; field of the [[Template:Wiki|wiki infobox template]] to match the name of the new relevant sub-category; some appropriate examples being: [[:category:Dead]], [[:category:Dormant]], [[:category:Goal abandoned]], [[:category:Goal reached]], or [[:category:Archived]] (the latter being specifically for dead wikis which have a number of its pages saved by one or more of the [[:category:Archives|archiving]] sites, such as the ''Internet Archive WaybackMachine'' at [[Archive.org]], or the ''Webpage archive'' at [[archive.is]]).  Historically, we used to change dead wikis by substituting the main Wiki infobox template into [[template:Inactive]]; we just changed the <code>Wiki</code> at the top of the template to <code>Inactive</code>; however, this Inactive template is now <u>depreciated</u>.  Please see [[WikiIndex:How do you categorize a wiki that is no longer]] for further details.

[[Administrator]]s must always use an informative [[edit summary]] when deleting, to avoid the need for [[user]]s to ask why the said page was deleted. [[MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown]] contains several possible deletion reasons.
