First, you might be wondering about our name. It comes from that irresistible urge all of us have to touch a surface any time we see a "Wet Paint" sign. It's a name, then, that speaks to curiosity, getting involved, and messing around (even if just a little bit) with convention and order.

Sometime during July [[:Category:Founded in 2013|2013]], the entire collection of Wetpaint wiki sites were sold to a new company: {{tag|WikiFoundry|WikiFoundry, Inc.}}  Transition to this new company was scheduled for approximately one week, and all existing Wetpaint wiki sites would be transferred to the new <tt>WikiFoundry.com</tt> domain, continuing as a sub-domain in the same format as Wetpaint, ie; <tt>wikiCancer.Wetpaint.com</tt> moved to <tt>wikiCancer.WikiFoundry.com</tt>.  Wetpaint hosted wiki site [[redirect]]s to WikiFoundry.com for one year.  From late [[:Category:Founded in 2014|2014]], the Wetpaint wiki site, along with all wiki sites remaining on the Wetpaint.com domain were taken {{tag|Dead|offline}} for good.

Wetpaint was a wiki farm which offered free hosted wiki websites to anyone who wanted to create one. Wetpaint's product offered visual (WYSIWYG) editing and threaded comments, using its own unique wiki engine. It was financially supported by contextual advertising. Wetpaint wiki sites were editable (obviously), but the edit button is in near the top left, unlike MediaWiki wikis. Wiki sites that utilised Wetpaint technology included wikiCancer, wikiFido, BobDylanwiki, wikiGOP, Independent Film Database, Everything Wiki, and a public testing site entitled wikiSandbox. Wetpaint licensed third-party use of the Collective Content and Submissions under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike 3.0 unported license (CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0).[1]
