Wikinfo.org was originally a wiki fork of the whole English Wikipedia! The main difference (and perhaps the reason for the fork) is that Wikinfo supposedly tries portray a 'sympathetic point of view' (SPOV), rather than Wikipedias' 'neutral point of view' (NPOV). In reality, the majority of pages are unmodified copies of Wikipedia content.

"Original research which addresses significant problems is especially appreciated. Dictionary definitions, links to websites, quotations, source texts, and other types of information not acceptable on Wikipedia are welcome. Wikinfo is intended to complement and augment Wikipedia, and, ultimately, surpass it as an information resource, but users are encouraged to continue participation in that community and help make it all that it can be".

Major shakeup in March 2007: programmer left, FJB retained leadership, engine switched from GetWiki to MediaWiki wiki engine, changed to OpenEdit. English Wikinfo has a problem.

In June 2008, there are articles in English, German, French, Croatian, Italian, Portuguese, and Latin.[1] The wiki became very much more active.

Sometime late 2016, the first MediaWiki site, located at http://Wikinfo.org/w/English/index.php, went offline. In March 2017, a new Wikinfo MediaWiki site was launched, located at https://wikinfo.org/wikinfo/index.php/Main_Page. As of mid 2018, this new MediaWiki site is considerably smaller than its predecessor.
