Wikispaces is closing down

This Category: Wikispaces is either empty, or sparsely populated,
and needs to be 'populated' with articles, stubs (and / or other categories)
relevant to the subject matter of this specific category.

Include an article page in this category via one (or more) of three methods:
a. add Wikispaces in the appropriate field of its infobox template
b. 'tag' a word within the prose of the article, eg. {{tag|Wikispaces}}
c. add [[Category:Wikispaces]] at the bottom of its edit box.

Wikispaces – wikis for everyone, owned by Tangient LLC, was a wiki farm founded early 2005,[1] which offered free wiki site hosting in various languages, and paid-for extra features. Headquartered in San Francisco, the State of California (CA), in the United States of America, Wikispaces seemed to be aimed at small companies, educational establishments,[2] special interest groups, as well as private individuals.[3] The WikiMatrix wiki engine comparison wiki site indicated Wikispaces had over four million users, and more than 1.5 million wiki sites (so we need to get our skates on to add them all here on WikiIndex!!!).

Wikispaces wiki sites were powered by its own custom-built proprietary wiki engine software, with some interesting features. Wikispaces did not support CamelCase, but did support all other conventional wikilink creation functions and syntax.[4][5] Free 'spaces' are 'supported' by Google advertising, whereas paid-for spaces don't. All Wikispaces supported the OpenID universal log-in.

There is a directory of 'Wikispaces' which lists all the wiki sites on this wiki farm. For the biggest most active wikis, see top spaces.

In early 2018, Wikispaces announced that the Wikispaces service would be closing down; notice was given for users to download the content database of individual Wikispaces sites. The first tranche (Classroom and Free wikis) were closed on 31 July 2018, whilst the Plus and Super wikis remained in service until 30 September 2018. The final tranche Wikispaces sites (Private Label wikis) were closed at the end of January 2019. There is very little known of the fate of most formerly hosted Wikispaces sites, and scant evidence of any subsequent future incarnations of former Wikispaces survivors.
