Category:ReadOnly — the wikis listed in this ReadOnly category can not be edited by anyone; except the wiki sites' System Operators (SysOps). These wikis deny users the one thing that makes wikis special. Despite the 'wiki' format and wiki software, they fundamentally function like an ordinary website, where users are only able to read someone else's opinion. Users can not change anything that they feel is wrong of factually incorrect, or add anything that they know or feel can improve the site; however, some sites may be facilitate direct contact to the SysOps via e-mail offering suggestions or alterations to existing articles.

Many people, including folks here at WikiIndex think these websites are not true wiki. In fact, SwitchWiki (the predecessor to WikiIndex) only listed OpenEdit wiki. However, there may be very valid reasons why a wiki is set to ReadOnly - one such scenario may be a wiki which was created as an editable wiki for a forthcoming conference, and then 'locked' to ReadOnly following the conclusion of said conference.
