The Kingdom Hearts Database is a wiki dedicated to building the ultimate source for news, information, and media from the Disney / Square Enix video game series, Kingdom Hearts. The Kingdom Hearts Database works to document and preserve a wide-range of content, including lore, gameplay data, news, scripts, media, interviews, development history, and more related to the Kingdom Hearts series.
History
Inspired by both existing wikis and online news publications in the tech space, the Kingdom Hearts Database was created on 5 March 2018, with the original vision of combining both the encyclopedia nature of wikis with up-to-date news coverage of the Kingdom Hearts series, and in preparation for the highly-anticipated release of Kingdom Hearts III. Sometime afterwards, with Fandom announcing the retirement of the Monobook skin, the remaining staff at the Fandom-hosted Kingdom Hearts Wiki (then called The Keyhole), migrated to the Kingdom Hearts Database.
To help promote itself as the newest and smallest Kingdom Hearts site, the Kingdom Hearts Database launched a Twitter account, a podcast, and reached out to and affiliated with other members of the Kingdom Hearts community. In 2019, the Database affiliated with both Kingdom Hearts Screencaps (a screen capture collection website) and Project Destati (a renowned music group). In 2020, the Database organized a series anniversary stream-a-thon that was the precursor to the now annually-hosted "March Caprice: A Celebration of Kingdom Hearts" online event. In 2021, the Database affiliated with the newly-created and independent Final Fantasy Wiki. It became the thirteenth member of the Gaming Wiki Network on 22 December 2022.[1] The Database's Twitter account surpassed 1,000 followers on May 9, 2023. On September 5, 2023, the Kingdom Hearts Database became a founding member of the Independent Wiki Federation.
