Gamepedia was the free MediaWiki wiki farm which was owned and operated by Curse (formerly Curse Inc., Curse subsequently owned by Twitch Interactive, Inc.). Gamepedia, as its name suggests, only hosted wiki sites in support of video games, and no other subject. It operated on the Gamepedia.com domain, with all wiki sites being a sub-domain; for example, the Gamepedia Help Wiki was found at Help.Gamepedia.com. Furthermore, all Gamepedia.com wiki site URLs were accessed via the 'https' SSL, or 'Secure Sockets Layer' secure connection protocol, as certified by Starfield Technologies, Inc.

Description

Gamepedia called itself the largest video game wiki platform on the web in 2018, and featured hundreds of community-driven wiki projects in many different languages. Gamepedia was home to everything from indie title wikis, to some of the best-known gaming wikis; such as the official Minecraft Wiki, Leaguepedia, and the official ARK Wiki. Ranked in the top 1,000 sites globally by traffic,[citation requested] Gamepedia continued to expand rapidly with the creation of new wiki projects on a near-daily basis. In addition to its wiki offerings, Gamepedia was also a source of gaming news and information, high-quality video content, and exciting contests and giveaways.

All wiki sites were powered by the now ubiquitous MediaWiki software, and their visual appearance was modified by way of custom skins. For those on the go, Gamepedia wikis can also be accessed by and edited on various mobile devices thanks to the inclusion of the mobile-specific skin called Minerva. Notably, all wikis on the Gamepedia wiki farm were powered by a single core installation of MediaWiki known as Hydra.[1] Semantic data was originally enabled by way of utilising the Semantic MediaWiki suite of extensions, though this was subsequently disabled. Funding was achieved by way of a plethora of on-screen advertising.

On 12 December 2018, the entire Gamepedia.com wiki farm, and all its wiki sites, were acquired by Wikia, Inc., and all wiki sites were subsumed into Wikia's 'Fandom' brand.
