Bavaria, correctly titled as Freistaat Bayern (en: Free State of Bavaria) is a federal state (de: Bundesländer) of Germany (de: Bundesrepublik Deutschland); the largest by area, and the second most populous. Bavaria is located in the south-east of the country, and its neighbouring states are Baden-Württemberg (to its west), Hesse (north-west), Thuringia (north), and Saxony (north north-east). It shares country borders with Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
