Initial thoughts[edit]

Just discovering via Chris Messina some potential uses of "declarative" microformats on wikis and any other web platforms. FYI, the BarCamp-wiki currently uses them. You know perhaps I'm not a programmer, but I'm still questioning on the way to integrate theses future wiki-formats for the WikiIndex:WikiIndex:Structured data project? Sorry for this newbie question. Perhaps this question has been asked elsewhere ? Currently thinking to this "hreview" attribute and the uses in the future wikis. -- Christophe Ducamp 06:37, 15 June 2006 (EDT)

Hi Christophe, most people that are here are not currently programmers either, so no worries. I barely understand microformats. We discussed them while WikiVanning to WikiSym, but that was a while ago and in the midst of a lot of incoming data. I think it is a great conversation to start/continue/flush out. MarkDilley
Christophe, I briefly went to find what you are talking about at the BarCamp wiki, but didn't get there. Can you give a link. Thanks, MarkDilley

I have no idea what any of this is. TedErnst | talk 12:48, 15 June 2006 (EDT)

Bonjour Mark et Ted. Just a link on our last [barcamp in paris]. If you have ms-windows you could test this firefox-plugin extension tails export which is useful to show some hCard (vcf file] hCalendar [export to .ics file], hReview, xFolk, Rel-license... I'm not sure but I think we could bridge some "tags/categories" with microformats. Currently thinking about the creation of a [world wine wiki] index, I discovered we could create any formats like this wine-format written for wine review : http://www.simplebits.com/notebook/2006/06/10/wineformats.html. So my suggestion here would be just to talk about the future of pairing WikiReview and microformats ? -- Christophe Ducamp | talk05:12, 16 June 2006 (EDT)

more please, still[edit]

Christophe, I still need help in understanding the implications here. I think I sorta get it. MarkDilley

Gregoire just edited the omidyar.net page for the Chicago conference to link to a microformat for ical. I can't say I understand what this means, but check it out: http://www.omidyar.net/group/conference/ws/Chicago06/ TedErnst | talk 09:27, 19 June 2006 (EDT)
Gregoire has also opened a discussion at omidyar.net about microformats: http://www.omidyar.net/group/issues-tech/news/104/[dead EL] TedErnst | talk 12:03, 19 June 2006 (EDT)

My first feeling is that microformats in wiki could be huge and especially the "rel-tag" microformat. IMO, WikiIndex could become an interesting web-platform especially on :

  • rel-tag microformat:consider WikiIndex as a Tag-Space to invite people to tag each time they quote wikis on the web ?
  • hCard for people identity :could be automocally hcarded via the nice forms you've installed.
  • hReview for wikis, and books
  • ...

This is just a first exploration, I'm a real newbie on this question. But my suggestion would be to invite you to talk/ask in the #microformat channel on freenodes. The idea could be to talk on the way to automatically transform any WikiIndex:Structured data typed by the user in your forms to standards Microformats. Let's say I'm still enthusiast to continue this exploration. Regards. --- Christophe Ducamp | talk 11:43, 29 June 2006 (EDT)
