WikiIndex:Logo images (generic non-specific)

WikiIndex:Logo images (generic non-specific) — here on this WikiIndex wiki site, we use some general, non-specific images, which mimic actual wiki logos, to visually illustrate on article pages for a wiki site which may either have no wiki logo of their own, or maybe they have a wiki logo but the editor was not able to upload nor find the actual URL for the logo to hotlink to. Furthermore, we also use other generic images which highlight a specific status of an individual wiki site (when its own logo is either unknown, or it never had a logo). All the images shown below have fundamental purposes, and these are explained adjacent to the individual images.

One of the below image logos will be displayed within its article (or category) page here on WikiIndex, by way of its specific infobox template, specifically using the |logo =  field. Most of our widely used infobox templates are now coded with specific preloaded 'key' terms, which when used, will call on the required logo image and display it within the infobox in the rendered article or category page. More importantly, when using these preload keys, it will also generate the required 'hover' text description and the 'alt' image description as used by screen readers and other assisted technologies for the visually impaired. Finally, the preload keys will also auto-include the wiki site article (or category) page into one (or more) specific categories for that actual logo image (when used with its specific key). For actual wiki sites, the wiki infobox template (with the black border) is used on their article page. For wiki engine software, the wiki engine infobox template (with the orange border) should be used on its category or article page. And for a category page on a specific wiki farm (a site which hosts a number of wiki sites), the wiki farm infobox template (with the green border) should be used.

Logo images[edit]

Automatically generated[edit]

The logo images below will be automatically placed on a rendered (or displayed) article or category page within its 'infobox' when the appropriate preload key is used in the |logo =  field. The images may also be used in the logo field of its infobox by way of a traditional 'wikilink' (though this is now strongly discouraged, as some editors may not include the appropriate image hover text and 'alt' description, nor add the required category). However, in some specific circumstances, it may be appropriate to include one of these logos as a separate thumbnail image external to the infobox within the article page for the sake of clarity.

Regarding individual wiki sites which use any of the preload key options, should their situation change as the wiki site evolves; for example, it gains a logo, or sadly the wiki is taken offline and closed, or when fuller detail is known about the respective wiki site, these logo images may be amended by deleting the preload key and replacing with the its actual or revised logo image.

[edit]

Small rectangular monochrome image, landscape orientation, thin black border with a white background, containing the words 'no logo' in black text. NoLogo.png — fundamentally, this 'NoLogo' image means that the wiki site does not have a logo. However, it may also mean that the WikiIndex editor was not able to view an actual logo on the target wiki site, for a variety of reasons; the most common reason for not displaying a conventional wiki logo is caused by certain specific skins, other reasons can be due to using mobile web browsers. This 'NoLogo.png' image file has two preload keys ('No' and 'Unknown'), each with their own specific hover text and specific category, but both using identical 'alt' image description.

No Logo Uploaded Yet[edit]

A square image with a graduated pale cream background, containing the words 'No Logo Uploaded Yet' in black text. No Logo Uploaded Yet.png — this can be used on article pages about new wiki sites (or even existing wikis) which do not have a logo, but really should! Hopefully, this will act as a 'prompt' to the owner of the actual wiki site, ideally to initiate the owner to upload their own wiki logo to their own wiki site first. 'NoLogoYet' is the preload key.

[edit]

A square image with a graduated pale brown background, containing the words 'Please Upload Logo' in black text. Upload logo.png — this logo can be used on articles for a wiki site that does have a logo (has been seen on the wiki site), but the registered user, and / or the IP editor here on WikiIndex is unable to upload the actual logo, and / or are not able to find the URL for the logo. Preload key 'Upload'.

Private[edit]

A square image with a graduated pink/red background, containing the words 'Private Wiki' in black text. Private.png — this is typically used for known private wiki sites, where actual information on, and logo for said private wiki is sparse or totally unknown. Furthermore, this is the default logo when the Private infobox template is used. 'Private' is the preload key.

Wikia[edit]

WikiaLogo.JPG — this can be used to indicate a Wikia wiki site which never had its own logo, or we are unable to locate its original logo. 'Wikia' is the preload key used to display this WikiaLogo.JPG logo.

404[edit]

404.jpg — this can be used to indicate a dead wiki site which never had its own logo, or we are unable to locate its original logo. 'Dead' is the preload key used to display this 404.jpg logo.

Inactive (depreciated)[edit]

A square image with a graduated grey background, containing the words 'This Wiki is Inactive :-(' in black text. Inactive.png — now depreciated. Please reuse the wiki site's original logo if still available (either previously uploaded here on WikiIndex {wikilink}, or via any of the web archiving sites {hotlink}), or use 404.jpg as shown above. This was the default logo when the now depreciated Inactive infobox template is used. No preload key.
